Tottenham star Alderweireld is a top Manchester United transfer target with the Red Devils determined to sign the 29-year-old.

Despite links to Harry Maguire, Yerry Mina and Jerome Boateng, Alderweireld is Jose Mourinho’s top defensive target with less than 24 hours of the transfer window remaining.

So far, United are yet to table a bid for the 29-year-old, with Tottenham demanding a huge £55million to let him go.

But the Red Devils are reportedly ready to offer one of Marcos Rojo or Chris Smalling to the north London side.

United have endured a torrid transfer window so far.

Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant were all signed by late June and many fans were clamouring for some blockbuster arrivals.

Gareth Bale, Ivan Perisic and Willian, though, are likely to stay at Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea respectively.

ESPN say United may offer Smalling or Rojo to Spurs - with the the club willing to listen to any interest for the latter.

Argentina international Rojo only signed a new United contract back in March.

But injuries and inconsistency has since seen him tumble down Mourinho’s pecking order.

United want a deal for Alderweireld to reflect the fact he will cost just £25million in 12 months time.

But whether they can break Tottenham’s resolve remains to be seen.

United and Spurs have a tense relationship which stems from the Red Devils’ controversial signing of Dimitar Berbatov a decade ago.

The Bulgarian was meant to be on his way to Emirates Marketing Project but United forced Tottenham to accept a lower fee for Berbatov, who was hellbent on leaving.

Since then, Tottenham have refused to let Eric Dier, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale move to Old Trafford.

And it is not to be ruled out them keeping Alderweireld, despite the fact he will cost tutors just £25m next year.

They are just trolling now!

Well if the riots got us a new stadium...

Little bit of speculation on my part, but I wonder if we are more likely to deal in foreign players than UK trained.

With the window shutting for the Premiership only, and continuing to be open on the continent I think it much more likely we will be able to pull of a deal for Bailey - as Leverkusen have time to use the cash themselves, compared to Zaha - where Palace are under the same time crunch as us.

Which would also mean then, logically, we would be selling foreign players to accommodate the moves.

Not that I expect Bailey, just putting it out there - the window is ours alone so it seems more logical to me we could get deals with european clubs easier than domestic.

I think De Ligt will magically appear if Alder goes for just that reason

No - I mean the european teams can carry on trading after today.

So, for arguments sake - we pulled off that £70m Tah/Bailey double deal with Leverkusen, they have time after today to reinvest that money and strengthen the team.

Where as, we spend that on Zaha, Palace are up against the clock to make any moves they need to.
