Steven Bergwijn

Highlight reels are not always telling the full story we know that, however he can play and once he picks the pace of the game here we may have a major hit on our hands.

Another player who came out of the Ajax academy which is usually a good sign.
Left there at 13 though
But taught the Dutch way

Hmmm...

Pros: Quick feet, good acceleration, cracking long range shot
Cons: Lots of "meh" assists

Lots of simple passes in the box, too. Not sure whether that's a good thing (head up, keeps it simple, calm in the box) or a negative (wouldn't get that time and space in the Prem).
Wish Sonny did the same.

Anyone follow the Eredivisie? We all think of Ajax as being the big dogs, but Wikipedia says this century* PSV won the league in

1999–00, 2000–01, 2002–03, 2004–05, 2005–06, 2006–07, 2007–08, 2014–15, 2015–16, 2017–18

So presumably Stevey BeerWine was a star player in recent victories?

Throughout the years, PSV established itself as a stepping stone for future world class players like Ruud Gullit, Ronald Koeman, Romário, Ronaldo, Phillip Cocu, Jaap Stam, Park Ji-Sung, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Arjen Robben

Ajax won the title 2001–02, 2003–04, 2010–11, 2011–12, 2012–13, 2013–14, 2018–19
Feyenoord won it 2016–17

Agree with that. Another con might be that he doesn't seem to do a lot defensively. Mourinho wouldn't let Hazard get away with that so hopefully Bergwijn will pick it up quickly.

Good combination of pace, skill, creativity and end product. Never a bad thing, if he can do the same for us mind.

I think it's fair to say that Ajaz and PSV have been pretty even in recent times, with Feyenoord next and then a big drop to the rest.

Winners this century since 1999/00, then:

99/00: PSV
00/01: PSV
01/02: Ajax
02/03: PSV
03/04: Ajax
04/05: PSV
05/06: PSV
06/07: PSV
07/08: PSV
08/09: AZ Alkmaar*
09/10: FC Twente**
10/11: Ajax
11/12: Ajax
12/13: Ajax
13/14: Ajax
14/15: PSV
15/16: PSV
16/17: Feyenoord
17/18: PSV
18/19: Ajax

* van Gaal's AZ won by a mile on 80pts, ahead of Twente (69), Ajax (68) and PSV (65).
** FC Twente beat Martin Jol's Ajax by a point thanks to the genius of Steve McClaren!

Ajax's dominance between 2010 and 2014 came about after a top-down shift in club culture brought about by Cruyff (who else?) with Frank de Boer as manager and the likes of Bergkamp, Overmars and van der Saar involved behind the scenes.

Well, that was interesting. I particularly enjoyed this, towards the end of the History of Ajax Wikipedia page:
Three days following Ajax's KNVB Cup triumph, the second-leg of the Chmapions League semi finals took place in Amsterdam. The match started off well for the Dutch side, with 19 year old captain, Matthijs de Ligt netting an early goal in the 5th minute, followed by a 35th minute Hakim Ziyech goal to double the home side's advantage. The second half of the match was a completely different story, however. Lucas Moura would go on to net a second half hat trick for the London side, including the winner in the 6th minute of added time. The match would end 3-2, with Tottenham advancing to the final via the away goal rule with an aggregate score of (3-3).

Good times!

I wouldn't expect defensive work to feature much on an attacking player's highlights video. Hopefully he does some.

Nice, thanks for posting. He's clearly got a footballing brain - I love how unselfish he is, seems to first and firemost look for the best move for the team and not for himself. Looks very good in the videos.
