Absolutely not my intended implication, and if that is what you took from it, either I did not articulate myself clearly or you did not see what I was saying clearly. Probably a bit of both?
However, what you said subsequently provided more questions for me personally, and I will share with you, notably given how you are absolutely right when it comes to targets (both teams need to agree) why would Mourinho even bother mentioning what he mentioned? Especially given how Bergwijn has been effective? We all know he does not say anything without a reason, he is not loose-lipped at all, so what was he doing? I took it that he was quietly making sure everyone knew he was not necessarily getting all he asked for. I could well be wrong but history supports the fact that when he speaks it has a point.

Whenever there's rumours about a player coming in, it's always "who's he gonna replace in the team?"
IT'S NOT ABOUT THAT! It's about options, about having a squad! Having options that are about equally good, but in different ways. If one is out of form, or not having a good game, you have another one that can step in, that is of the same quality.
 
Low-key, Bergwijn is the player I'm most excited for this season. Much like Lo Celso, there were flashes last season of a truly special player - but unlike Lo Celso, who has a long history of massively impressing with PSG and Real Betis, Bergwijn was coming off a few good seasons in the Eredivisie only, and so I had my doubts.

But he has burning pace. He has a great cross on him, and a sharp, instinctive finish. He works really hard, on and off the ball.

And, perhaps most importantly - he has a certain something about him when it comes to intelligence and decision-making. I can't quite explain it, but I'm quietly confident that, if Bergwijn's on the field, he will make the right pass or be in the right position to receive one at least once a game. Not to say he'll do it all game, but usually, one game changing moment like that per game is a sign of a special player.

In the dogfight between him and Lucas for a starting spot, I think, long term, we gain more from Bergwijn winning that battle. I've heard it said that Steve Hitchen was significantly involved in Bergwijn's transfer - if (if) he comes good this season, it might balance out the Ndombele disaster.

Amongst the clamour surrounding new signings as well as the Kane Son partnership he’s an absolute dark horse. Think Stevie will crush it once we unleash him as teams will be having to double mark 2 other star players. Intelligent runs / quick passing that we’ve seen plus the sheer pace and finishing...if we didn’t have Son on that side he’d easily score but it’s good for him to continue his versatility.

Real threats outside of the starting 11, contending for the shirt, Christ I think I need to sit down....

Agreed, and he'll get a reasonable amount of domestic time too, certainly in the cups plus off the bench in the league and when Sonny needs a break
 
Bergwijn has one hell of a motor, he kept running and battling all night long and the skill he showed for the 6th goal was sublime.

It is great to think we could have him and Moura running like Duracell bunnies at a team for an hour, then we can unleash Bale and Son on a shattered defence!
