Squad

They might have planned for it. That keeping him gives them a better chance of staying up, than any fee they receive for him. Staying up would also be worth more to them than any fee they get.

Although they might think they have a good chance at staying up and will cash in.

We don't know.
Of course
We shall see

The players that we still have with us at the moment

Is that looking right?

Premier League (updated, so no longer correct)
Total - 41
NHG - 19
HG - 9
U21 - 13

UEFA
Total - 41
Club Trained - 4
Association Trained - 7
B-List - 8

Hopefully a few of the youngsters will get a good loan, and we get rid of a few more players

Some of it is a bit subjective with the academy players. E.g you have Abbott, but not Soonsup-Bell. And Nile John and Matt Craig arent there, despite being older and having senior appearances.

Missed John, but I don't think Craig has been involved with the first team since Ange has been here.

The rest I think have (not sure about Lankshear) or are training with them just now

Craig was on loan at Doncaster all last season so is probably similar bracket to Parrot (probably being sold but maybe has a last fortnight now to demonstrate something exceptional)

How many can we loan out now? Is there a limit to the amount we can loan in england, or has the fa brought those rules in yet?

I think we are down to 6
But 21 and under players, don't count to that limit.
Nether do club trained players.

I will add more of the youngsters in tomorrow

The 6 is just abroad though. Not sure if the fa have followed yet. Think domestic associations were given 3 years to follow fifa. So possibly starting with 8 domestic loans this season. With 6 abroad? Udogie counted abroad. Hence we had to get rid of doherty.

People complain about spending rules being complicated. But squad rules for me are more of a headache to try and work out.

Didn't realise we had a PL and a Uefa loan rules....

I remember Doherty, but that was because Spence wanted to go abroad when he had options in England

They changed the rules in november (before the jan transfer window). U21s didn't count towards the foreign loan limit before that. It caught us off guard. Can't remember exactly what the rules changed to.

@Bedfordspurs might remember. Think we were discussing it at the time.

7 players on loan overseas IIRC
Changed because of Chelsea

Not sure it was just chelsea. Atalanta had over 100 on loan at one point.

It was to stop clubs hoarding players. So now they just buy loads of clubs instead. Yay.
Chelsea was the “subject” on the report over here

But it’s exactly what you say

We're talking fifas rule. Domestic associations had 3 years to follow.

Interesting, from a pure deadwood perspective, it isn't that bad

Have to go (no place in team) -> Spence, Reguilon, Gil
Probably should move on (but would see game time) -> Lo Celso, PEH, Royal
5 of those 6 are non homegrown

we have 15 players below 24 years of age; 7 are 22 years or under. seems like we are finally starting to put in place a talent pipeline to ensure competition and continuity.

sure still opportunities to improve. nevertheless i can imagine already a competitive squad could be formed from this list for some games next season

So question considering current squad

- How much do we buy from here and potentially block youth progression
- Or take a risk and plan to have Gray, Bergvall, Moore, Lankshear, Devine, Austin play a real part in this season?
- option 3, splash on one position (my call - striker) and let the youth take the other roles?

And what result would you be satisfied with if at end of season, 4 of those players are established squad options?

So, I’ve been bored at work and have just done this:

GK - Vicario, Austin, Forster
RB - Porro, Spence, Gray, Dragusin
RCB - Romero, Dragusin
LCB - Van De Ven, Dragusin, Davies
LB - Udogie, Spence, Davies, Van De Ven, Skipp
#6 - Bissouma, Gray, Bentancur, Skipp
#8 - Sarr, Bentancur, Gray, Bergvall, Skipp
#10 - Maddison, Bergvall, Kulusevski, Devine, Gray
RW - Johnson, Kulusevski, Moore
CF - Richarlison, Son, Kulusevski
LW - Son, Werner, Moore, Johnson

To leave: (Permanently) Emerson, Reguillon, Lo Celso, Solomon, Scarlett, Richarlison; (Loan) Phillips, Lankshear, Veliz, Donley

Upgrades: Gyokeres / Toney, Neto / Eze, Ederson, Ramsey

The key takeouts for me are:

1) Amazingly versatile squad, with so many players that are multi-faceted which will ensure we keep squad fresh and hungry this season, more so than last

2) We’re still weak at CF - how do we upgrade without blocking Lankshear’s potential path, assuming he continues developing at the same rate?

3) The squad is nearly full and we really only have space for 1 / 2 signings if the expected departures come to pass, so I’m not expecting too many incomings

4) The future’s bright, the future’s lilywhite. COYS!!!
