Son Heung-Min

He's still good when he's fresh. But tired Son is not good in any role in this system.
Unless you're telling me he hasn't been fresh for two seasons then no. He is just on the decline and has been for a while now, his touch and passing was always average and it's getting worse. Time to move on, but Ange has dug his own grave with this one making Son captain.....

He was dreadful in 22/23 but thought he was fine last season, 17 goals. Maybe not in terms of overall play but still a goal threat. Not arguing that he needs to be phased out though, Moore and Odobert should get as much game time as possible if they ever return.

It was obvious last season, his burst of pace had disappeared and it really showed him up when one on one against players because he has never had skill to beat a player one on one. He does a couple of quick step overs but without his pace it's meaningless and he either lost the ball or passes backwards. Like you say he was at least still scoring last season as he was a good finisher still, but now that's gone he looks so bad. I be pray we have a new skipper next season, and I say that with the greatest respect to Son.....

No, I'm not saying that.

Think there's a pretty big difference both between some games and even within games between when he seems to be playing with a lot of energy vs when tired (or like last night when starting and to me seemingly has to manage his energy to last the full game).

My point was, he's been on the decline for some time now and you can't attribute it all to tiredness. Sure, when tired you don't perform to your optimum like any player. But Son has got worse, so his performances when tired are worse - the fact he is captain is a real problem because his performances don't inspire and as nice a guy as he is he isn't the 'when in the trenches' type of guy. Said it from the beginning, this was a bad call from Ange and should already be phased out. Regardless of injuries he would still be selected way more than he should be......

I think he is on the decline. And I think his minutes should be managed to get the most out of him at this stage. I think that was what happened earlier in the season when we had options. Would be good if Ange could get back to that, if he can I think Son is still a very good player - though not a perfect fit to the role/system.

On the captain thing I don't know. Difficult to know from the outside.

Still the best finisher at the club, ideally Moore will be back soon and we can get him more game time and he eventually replaces Son. I’d still take Son over flippin Werner, as bad as Son can be.
I'd have agreed about his finishing last season, but even that is gone now. A club legend but the time of even legends comes to an end.

Brain, even earlier in the season he wasn't good when we had options. Love the guy, but respectfully will just have to disagree with you on this one. Going forward next season or earlier, I would much rather Odobert and Moore as our LW options rather than still using Son tbh. But with his marketing potential I wouldn't be surprised if he is still being used.....

Don’t disagree with that. But we’re thin on options. And it’s an easy decision between him and Werner (the two available options) for me.

I'd like to see Son start on the bench more often, come on against tiring legs with energy to spare and burn himself. Then used more sparingly as a starter.

I can't know if he'd look better then, but I think maybe he would.

Sad to say this but he has been poor for most of the season, imo he has always had these runs during previous seasons when he has gone missing but they never lasted that long. Sad to say this season it looks like he has gone of the cliff alltogether. Hope he can go out in the next few games and proves me wrong.

I agree with this. I remember commenting last season that he had lost that little bit of zip that gave him the separation from defenders. It's not that he's now slow, it's that he hasn't got that first burst of acceleration anymore. I even remember loads of discussions on here talking about his effectiveness last season and it was always through the middle. Whenever he played on the left last season he was largely poor, not as bad as this season but an obvious drop off from previous seasons.

I don't know if it was poor planning or just a inability to accept the truth about Son's current and future viability for Spurs.

At his worst, Kane's effort levels were shockingly bad, he ducked out of headers and tackles, and he definitely stopped showing for the ball. Also his assists dried up completely (3 in 38) and you could find around about 10 goals in our net that wouldn't have happened if he was shutting down from the top. However, he still got 30 goals and for some fans accepted this very big compromise. I didn't.

When Ange came along, I had a feeling we might be in a tough place with Sonny. Roll back 20 years and a Son / Solanke partnership would actually be OK in a 4-4-2. Ditto Son and Kane. What we're now finding is that Sonny can't excel in a Ange's system. Son is basically WYSIWYG - what you see is what you get. Unlike Kane, he hasn't got the brain to learn new tricks and that is proved out over 5 different managers who can't get his brain in gear for defending in his own half. It's the same with the wide forward play we need.

I agree what Brain and others have said in that he should eventually end up on the bench. It will also help Spurs to find a plan B if we have someone that doesn't quite fit the system that the opposition have just got used to over 60-65 mins. Son coming on will pose a very different threat from wide forwards.

Also, we need to find a better captain.

we need a better coach first. i think kane would be equally frustrated with angeball.

I wonder if there is a contractual commitment to play him
He was bad last season through the middle and worst this season buggy instead of resting him we’re playing him more
The separation thing is a huge issue
And at CF he achieve it by running away from the CBs so it’s completely ineffective

That's what I would expect. The chances from scoring direct from a corner are so low, that it should be almost 0xG
