Son Heung-Min

So it's Conte's fault? Conte has been long gone and son has been free under Mason etc ... if he can't run faster because of Conte ... we are going to have serious issues next year when we cant blame Conte any more

He looks slower because we have no-one other than Kane who can fudging pass quickly and smartly enough to hit him early when he is looking to get behind. We stepped 10 yards higher against a brick Liverpool defence, Romero in particular threading passes through, and he was excellent.

For decent money I would sell anyone. Bar Kane there are no indispensable players in our team right now.
I'd say Bentancur is a key player for us and would be a target for better teams if we don't get out act together next season- everyone else has a price (actually some I'd pay to leave!)

There’s been plenty of times he’s had chances running in behind and he’s messed it up. Even today he had one were a good first touch out in front of him and he’d be running in on goal but he got it caught under his feet and gave the defence time to get back killing the chance.

Conte also led him to a golden boot winning season despite the Nuno mess but many choose to forget that.

As is classic with GG, a single line in an interview has been blown up to extremes and ran away with until it has no semblance to it's original use, like a game of Chinese whispers. A brick load of posters have ran the "Conte told me not to shoot" narrative which simply isn't true and act like he had been forced in to a bizarre position alien to him (like a certain manager playing him left back in an important game that can't be spoken of).

As for Conte being blamed for a supposed lack of pace, Jesus fudging wept, no doubt Conte told him to run reeeaallly sloooooooowly ffs

Possibly, but I fear that's more due to our bad form/shape than that he isn't interchangable with another player we could attract. Although most players can be made to look good, even great in the right setup. Like as Royal would ever get a sniff in our 16-17 team, but then again Sissoko.

The only player I'm pretty sure could be a key player for us in 2-3 years is Gil if given the chance. Not that noone else could be, like Kulusevski and Bentancur et al, but with Gil I'm feeling it. Few may agree, which is ok.

I saw that, yes slight mistouch but he still got a great shot off. I disagree re: chances running behind. I've seen him make that initial move to get behind loads of time, only for the ball behind him to be safely passed 3-6 yards laterally or backwards because we lack players who can play that necessary pass either on the floor through the lines or over the top.

For me it comes down to sides working out how Conte's 3-4-3 was 'stoppable' and us hammering that system without the necessary experts in those wing-back positions. Stymied Sonny for sure. Porro was the right player for 3-4-3 but wow, toooooo late.

Respectfully disagree, think he papered over cracks and improved a poor team, as he covered the ground and was slick in possession, was big part of us coming 4th last season and we were 4th and still in CL and FA Cup until he got injured (also looked good in the WC imo)

Kulu has the ability just a question over his fitness and he'd be even better in a possession based team as he's much better on the ball than off it. Gil has some qualities that I Iike (Can control a football and presses well) but still not sure about him physically (he doesn't get fouls he deserves which doesn't help)

Edit. Also felt Gil tried a little too hard to impress, which wasn't surprising and may be negated with a run of games under a coach that wants to use him)

That's a fair view and I respect that in regards to the wing backs but not the line purported about "Son being asked to not shoot" (which I haven't seen you suggest directly). And I agree 100% on the Porro point, signing Spence who Conte didn't rate and waiting until January to sign Pedro makes no sense. We either had to go with his vision or not, halfway didn't do anyone any favours.

FWIW I also regret our skirmish where I might have got a little personal via PM, I wholly accept it's a character flaw of myself to be irritated by positivity and I do appreciate you've been kind by reaching out to me in the past in regards to personal issues etc. Check out my recommendation in the music thread, it might be up your street mate, I was blown away by the album whilst searching for a pub to watch the Spurs game.

Possibly for another thread it's easily arguable that whatever system Mason is playing is also stoppable going by the Brentford and Villa result / performance. The constant factor seems to be the players crumble against opposition that need a result. Many have been impressed by Mason's flexibility but I don't think it's great moving to a 4-2-4 against Brentford out of desperation and then conceding again, that's just naivety imo.

Appreciated mate, and understood. Life is not easy for anyone these days, and sometimes the heckles get raised and just don't come down for a few weeks; I certainly go there too!

Saw the music thread post before I saw this one and yes, replied!

Again, thanks for that and apologies for any contribution I made to it all. Onwards my friend!

Yep. Porro was the signing we needed to make in the summer - plenty of people (me included) pointed that out then.

Club signing Djed Spence in until Jan killed our early momentum, and ended up killing our season. Who knows how differently things would have gone if we brought Porro in then and gave Conte a pre-season to work with a proper specialist wing-back. instead of a random bargain-bin kid from the Championship he completely ignored in favor of trying to shoehorn Emerson into a role he is useless at.

Bringing Porro in too late did zero favors to him, to Conte, to Spence, to the club, to our season...to everyone. And we do that again, and again, and again, for 23 years running - there's only one constant in all that.
