Son Heung-Min

We have a problem here. He wants first team football and has told Poch that this week.
If Son told Poch that then he will be the one with the problem. So far I have not seen enough from him to suggest that he deserves a starting place. He certainly has scored some vital goals and adds pace and energy when he plays, but he is not starting material as of now.

We seem to have a bit of a pattern developing here. Pritchard, Bentaleb, Mason, Son, all wanting first team football and likely having to leave to achieve it. I guess it is an issue we are going to have to deal with whilst we are competing at our current level, where we have players who are better than 'squad-level'-only but not seen as consistently strong enough to command a starting spot. It is a dilemma for management to manage.

also some managers dont tend to appreciate it when players come and say they want first team football. There is an interview with Klopp tomorrow on the BBC where he explains this

Poch said last season, 'you sign a contract to train with the club'. Whilst there are players who probably think they are first choice the only response poch expects from being out of the team is to work harder to get in it. Might explain why lesser talented players have been given more opportunities

I don't think any of those four your mention are better than squad-level players. Had they been first choice players it would have materially impacted our top 4 finish last year

Yes, sorry my post wasn't clear. I meant they may be considered better than squad-level-only at a lower PL level but not within a club where the first 11 are at the level of challenging for top 4 (and beyond).
Although given the chance Son has the potential to vie for a spot.

Well, if he has said that, then he will be sold. We know this.
That is the downside with that philosophy, it means the players can play the game if they want.

Hopefully Poch retains enough of a "I'm glad you want first team football. Work hard and perform when called upon and you will get it.....when the opportunity that you have earned arises."

If Son is clever he knows Dele, Eriksen and Lamela cannot be at their best all 60 games - work hard, tweak your game a bit..... make yourself the first choice to replace any of those (ESP Lamela or Dele)

Don't understand this. Season before last he was always playing and starting, last season he was injured. With a run of games, he definitely has the ability to make himself part of our first choice XI.

If Son is given a chance and he plays well, he will stay in the team until poor form or injury/suspension, that's how Poch works.

But for this to happen someone needs a run of poor form, injury or suspension for a chance for Son to appear.

IMO the other way it can go wrong for a player (under Poch), besides the obvious ie bad behaviour, speaking out of turn etc, is if there are areas of your game that need improving and Poch and the team have worked like trojans to identify/improve/rectify these areas and it's just not working then i would expect Poch's liking of you to diminish somewhat. For Son this is a complete lack of upper body strength.
