Savinho

TBF Savio isn’t a cast off because they want to keep him
The sancho one was mad because that was a deal we should have done with the Walker sale
Palmer had agreed terms at Chelsea a long long time before he joined them I’ve been told
I'm not even calling him a cast off, I was talking more wildly. Cast offs can still be a good option to go for. Like Ozil was 100% cast off but he was also a fantastic player (Arsenal bias aside).

City will happily keep Savio unless they get an offer that they think they have to accept.

Been some rather good deals from City to other big clubs. Palmer obviously, but Zinchenko and Jesus did well for Arsenal, though not stepping up to that level you describe we need. Milner to Liverpool another one, perhaps not great/elite, but became a very important player for them. Lavia went to Southampton so not a big club, but fantastic player who imo would have been good enough for someone like us. Not to the PL, but Julian Alvarez too.

They sign so many quality players they're kind of forced to sell some really good players.

Also a difference between signing someone probably getting to their peak and a younger player like Savinho as you say.

Yes age is the determining variable it seems. Far better to get a Savinho Palmer or Lavia than a Grealish, Zinchencho or Jesus. The older players are ‘proven’ squad player quality, the younger ones it’s all to play for. Who knows how they’ll kick on.

I don't know why we come in with these bids. That's not negotiating that's just annoying people.
I guess it depends how the whole process works?

I mean I have no idea, but we could have just made an offer and then they came back with what they want? Rather than it being City told us 80m and we bid 50. Otherwise I agree, to lowball like that to City is pretty silly really...

Have we read that personal terms are agreed with the player? My understanding is that in most modern deals this is one of the earlier steps and comes before the 2 clubs agree a fee. Perhaps I missed it.

I saw yesterday something about either wages had been agreed with the player, or terms wouldn't be a problem. Can't remember which....

What bid would you have made? €80m? Then they ask for €100m.

€50m is what cole palmer went for.
I think 50 to 80 is to high a gap to meaningfully start a process. I'd always go low but enough to make the other party engage. If I was asking for 80, I'd feel like 50 is too close to 40 to be serious. If some bid 56/57 I'd think to myself that this was the start of a serious negotiation.

We're like that guy on Facebook Marketplace who somehow tries to make it sound like they're doing you a favour.

(If any of this is even true)

Chicken and egg. Did we bid first or did they ask first?
How did we know they wanted €80m if we bid first?

If you meet in the middle it's €15m.

Alledgedly he is on £30k a week currently so I can't see us struggling with wages

Yeah, I think my point was more that when I read "personal terms have been agreed with the player" it sends the message that if the clubs can agree a fee then the deal might happen because the player is onside. I've read the "player is happy to move" but not that personal terms are agreed. That means we're further back in the process, at least in my mind.

Of course, on my other shoulder I have the other little guy telling me that there will be a big announcement after the final. The fans will need some cheering up so there is no point breaking news beforehand.

Is Romano trolling us?
First the 'here we go!" with MGW and now "Club to club talks to sign Savinho" which were on Sunday evening, it's now Wednesday.
When's he coming out with the "Nah not really" one?...
