Savinho

We could string this out and probably get a deal done on September 1st for £50M. Same as JPVH we could have shaved 20% of the fee by waiting. That's what Levy would have done and we end up missing out one of them as its left to late. Or there is an injury at City/Brighton which means they cannot sell or a rival clubs main target falls through and they move on to their 2nd choice which is Savinho or JPVH.

So yes you potentially save £25M by waiting. But you also put getting your key targets at risk and you do not have them for an extended period during pre season. How much more of an effective player would Xavi Simons have been if he has signed on July 15?

It’s 100% worth the extra paid to get them in early for pre-season. Be part of the squad, learn the tactics, learn team mates and be ready for the season ahead.

That’s not even scratching the surface of it, what if at the end of the season we qualify for the Europa but we’re 2 points off champions league and getting the players in early got us those 2 points in August, but that’s also to simplistic, lets say we save x amount by doing what Levy did but the team takes until October/November to gel as they had no pre season to integrate, we finish the season 7/8th but can console our self’s by saying if the season started in October/November we would have finished 4th, we are in the league cup from the middle of August, what if not having the signings in means we go out in the 2nd round whereas having them in means we go on and win it, and then factor in the AIA deal ends this season, if we are sat in 3/4th it’s puts the club in a stronger negotiating position than being sat in 6/7th, the premium paid for getting players in early, integrated into the squad and tactical setups can absolutely pay for itself come the end of a season.
