Sandro Tonali

I said he's the same type of player as Sarr and Gallagher. Some people seem to have read the wikipedia entry that calls him "the new Pirlo" and are completely misguided on what we actually might be getting
His passing game is levels above either though. Have you actually watched him play? Not saying he's worth £100m but there is a clear ability difference between Hina be the guys you mention and again I really like Sarr so in not underestimating him.

I agree, I think only a few players if any should command that sort of fee, you are talking about ones that basically would win you trophies on their own, a Messi, a R9 - that sort of skillset. However, with the stupid amount of money in the PL thats what happens - 100m is the new 40m. He significantly upgrades our midfield from what we have now, but only helps a little when you dont have a Sonny or Kane up front.

the reality is we are 17th and every bump up in standings is +3m pounds, so if we get champions league placings its 36m pounds bonus. a champions league progression into the playoffs can mean a range between 60 to 100m pounds too.

don't let levyfinance fool you - we have been trying to profit by getting into champions league without buying champion league quality players for far too long.

Does Ugarte being out for ages mean Utd will be looking for a midfielder like Tonali, I have no idea what roles players like Tonali and Ugarte do , are they similar at all, I'm still stuck in the days of inside right, inside left , wing half and centre half
It might actually work in our favour as I think the intention was to sell Ugarte. If that's not possible now it might mean that they have less money to spend on Mateus Fernandes.

£100m just seems like huge amount of money. I’m far from any kind of expert here as I just don’t have that much knowledge of players outside of Tottenham but I don’t know, that feels like a mega chunk of money for a very good (but not spectacular?) player.
I suppose if he’s key to RDZ’s plans then it becomes a matter of value vs cost, but it feels like a big and expensive gamble to me.
Agree. For that sort of money we should be trying to get Bruno Guimares who I think is much more influential.

That was kind of my point, and it has nothing to do with Levy more about how the cost of footballers in general has become ridiculous, what used to be considered a £40m players is now a £100m player. I am old though, i remember when signing a £15m Alan Shearer sounded crazy, or buying a generational talent like Gazza costs little over £2m.

We signed a Geordie lad for a british record £2m back in the day... that worked out OK.

Surely we are due to have a winner when spending the cash?
Too many Rebrovs, Ndombeles, Soldados etc...

I don’t think anyone doesn’t rate him (except a few weirdos and tacticos)
But the fee is disproportionate for me for where he is in global pecking order
This is world best level money, and I’m not sure he walks into the worlds best teams

If we were signing him from Italy we would be looking at what Zubamendi went for as a marker

But, also, I’m glad the club is seeming to want to show that ambition

He cost Saudi Sportswashing Machine £65M 3 seasons ago. Thats £80M in todays market.

I think for me it's two things

- At the end of the day, it's not our/my money, if we overspend (market prices seem to indicate we are not), as long as it doesn't really endanger the club (100M won't), who cares? prize for we paid less?
- It looks like we are going to buy 6-8 players that will be expected to start or challenge for start, that is an extreme amount of change that hardly ever works, by buying (even at over the odds pricing) PL proven, we are reducing our risk of it going wrong and the settling in time required.

Truth is, we have to buy at this level because we finished 17th twice in a row and have no Europe, so until we re-establish ourselves, no one who walks into the worlds best teams is going to come here, we have to do the layer right below.

We have wasted a brick ton of money signing mid tier players. We spent collectively £67M on Tel & Odobert. We would have been way better of spending that on one player.

I like Tel by the way. But we need ready made players now.
