Roberto Soldado

Re: Official - Soldado

A fantastic move. Who was the guy coming round the back? Was it Townsend? He might have had an easy tap in as well.

Such a shame for Solly. Difficult to know whether to perervere with him and hope he comes good or leave him out for now. Tricky one for TS.

Re: Official - Soldado

I'd still stick with him, he's getting chances which is key, sooner or later his luck will change

Re: Official - Soldado

Just unlucky today. The ball bounces awkwardly just before he gets it, difficult to control. He'll get there! :)

I thought he was more clumsy than unlucky for the miss. He had all the time in the world to control the ball and tap into an empty net. There was no defender near him him that time. Soldado has simply wasted too many sitters like that this season. I was never convinced of him when we signed him. Now he looks even worse. Unless he finds his goal scoring boot suddenly and go on a goal scoring run, just can't see him having a long term future at Spurs.

Re: Official - Soldado

His overall involvements were good yesterday, some really nice touches, flicks etc. But that miss...

He actually looked like one of the few players in our team that mastered the state of the pitch and still looked quality, but without the confidence from scoring I'm not quite sure how this one will pan out.

Like indian I felt sorry for the guy, that was awful.

Still a very good player in there I feel, but right now with Sherwood leaning towards a lone striker for most league games he'll struggle for game time in the PL and he's running out of time to turn it around. If he still hasn't turned it around in the league come the summer I could see him leave...

:ross: Not one striker at the top table of world football would have taken a touch before putting in the back of the net with a cross like that.

Re: Official - Soldado

Confidence breeds luck...

Look at Ade's two against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, the ball couldn't have fallen better for him when Krul spilled it and his second one wasn't the cleanest of strikes yet it bounced between two defenders and over Krul... when your lucks in!

Soldado will come good - but he needs to bloody hurry up!

Re: Official - Soldado

The guy was one of the top three strikers in a league that contained Messi and Ronaldo, a league in which people generally consider better than ours. Its pure confidence and I as a football man have seen enough to know he is good enough to justify the tag and place. It will come for him, for that I am sure.

Re: Official - Soldado

=D> To those posting the supporting on this thread after that miss. Genuinely expected a barrage of 'sell him now!' 'useless!' 'can't even score in a brothel!' etc.

Everything else he did was good with lovely link up play as always, just needs a tap in, anything to get that his confidence up.

Re: Official - Soldado

A new low for soldado, as a striker he should be putting that into the net every single time.

Did well linking up, but can't really forgive a miss of that calibre.

Re: Official - Soldado

The 10-year-old me would have walked it up to the line, got on my knees and headed it in.

I loved that ****!

I honestly feel if we keep faith in him for the rest of this season and he prepares well pre-season, we will have the player we paid £26m for in the first place for 14/15. I don't think any party involved thought he would have to adapt his game to such an extent and it's been a frustrating time all round. I have faith, blind maybe, but it's there.

4-4-2, or drop Ade? Those are the options for "keeping faith in Soldado".

We obviously can't drop Ade for Soldado at this point, and we've been doing well with a lone striker in recent weeks.

I think Soldado might have to prove himself off the bench or in the EL for now.

Re: Official - Soldado

history suggests Ade will go off the boil at some point, hopefully thats when Soldado will start to find the net

Good question.

I'm not the biggest fan of 4-4-2 considering our recent performances with Ade as lone striker. It could be key for Solly to work on adapting to a lone-striker position as an off-the-bench option. Understandably, he's no spring chicken in football terms so this is easier said than done. It means a massive shift in developing his hold-up play and having to recalibrate his initial instincts on and off the ball. Ade on form is an absolute monster in that position, Solly just isn't that type of player, so it really is a tall order.

Saying that, you pay that amount for a player then you should be playing to his strengths. If we could guarantee right now that Solly could get us 20+ goals in the league next season, if we played, say, a type of 3-5-2 or even a 4-4-2 with Ade dropping quite deep, would we take that? Lot's of mitigating circumstances I know, and probably too vague a point for a discussion, just pondering out loud. Judging by his form and performances in Spain, I feel it is worth persevering in him and looking to get the absolute best out of his qualities.

Rather than being in the line of thinking that he HAS to be in the first 11 every week, a confident and adapted Soldado would be an absolute asset for our squad going forwards, all in my opinion of course. And quite a bold opinion considering that miss last night!

Re: Official - Soldado

Another horrorshow from our one-time record signing.

People saying he did some good stuff are easily pleased simply cos he's been so poor up til now. A few little touches in no way justify part of his price tag. At the basics he was very disappointing with his final ball and missed the easiest chance anyone could ask for.

I'd be amazed if he's still here in six months time. Nice guy but very average player.

Re: Official - Soldado

Honestly think this guy will come good. That miss is the best example of what happens to a player when they are going through a **** period/mental block and nothing more, I'd be more worried if he was looking disinterested and sulky.
