Roberto Soldado

on a different level, but can apply to Spurs and our frustrating efforts to sign a striker.....some wise words from Mr H Redknapp regarding his chase for Hooper
.........................

Redknapp said on Thursday night: "It's very disappointing because I felt there was a deal to be done there but maybe this is a lesson learned for us.

"You have to get transfers like this done quickly and get them over the line. If you take your time you are always open to the risk of somebody else coming in and that seems to be what's happened with Gary Hooper

Levy is indeed playing a dangerous game, and as i said earlier in the week, Liverpool are a club who will just write the cheque to secure his services. they will have lost their best striker and they will no doubt be remembering what happened with Siggy when they prevaricated and we waltzed in and signed him.

I'm afraid Levy will look a clown if he wants Soldado and misses out on him for the sake of approx 10% of the transfer fee.
In the same way we sometimes get players on the cheap (Bale, Lennon, etc) Levy must accept that sometimes you have to pay that little bit more to secure what you want/need. Need being the key word.

yes i said this before too.....weve made some amazingly cheap and clever buys, so it wont hurt anyone or anything if we try and go that bit further and stretch ourselves to get the top striker we need. Strikers generally cost the most, its rare to find bargains, so imo its worth it to get a good one if he is available and wants to come like Soldado does

How could you possibly know that?

do you think the club is at risk if we pay 25 mill and 60k a week for Soldado??? logically?? just this one signing

Logically?

The club might not be at risk, however any other signings we may be trying to complete could be.

We value players, we refuse to pay more than we value the player. It makes logical sense.

I have no fudging idea as I am not involved in the financial management of the club and negotiation of transfer dealings so I won't make uninformed comments about something I am in no way knowledgeable about.

why be so aggressive, its just a question...debate, chat, there is not much else to talk about in the summer when there is no football

This aint monopoly, over four years that is one hell of price especially for a 28 year old.

fair enough, i understand that especially regarding his age. What if Spurs pay 20-22 mill then?

We might be waiting to see how much its going to cost us to keep Gareth and then we will know how much money is availabe for Soldado, I believe the deal for Gareth is being done at the moment, I have said before that people on here think you can just print money its laughable, I have run my business for 30 years and first and foremost things have to make financial sense, we are doing brilliantly as a well run club, why cant people realise this.

Every hour that ticks by, our chances lessen. Just do it man.

It feels like Pool will offer him £90kpw, he goes there and Steff will be all over this thread saying he trusts the current team, that he would trust Baldini and AVB and Levy if they felt the deal didn't fit our structure, that we didn't need him anyway and will be able to find someone else soon...

I feel like we're in this desperate situation because we DIDN'T sign any young striker talent and loan him out to Belgium and WBA/Wigan level clubs... we just have Kane. Dear me! Maybe we should address the situation in 2 or 3 years by signing some young African talent now and loan him out. I guess we bought that young striker that did well at the U19 or U20 cup, name escapes me but everyone says he is way off being ready.

The deciding factor is how much can we afford ? I think Solado is more about payment terms.

yes it seems we have bid, 22 mill pounds iirc, but Valencia want 2 payments and not 4 or 5 like Spurs want to make....we shall see i guess

I wouldn't say I'm being aggressive, I'm really not trying to kick off or anything, nothing against you as a poster but that comment was just ignorant. I imagine there is a lot that goes on in terms of player acquisition that would go way over my head, obviously it can be frustrating and also there doesn't seem to be a reliable source to learn even the basics of the business from, it's all a bit of mystery. So as I clearly don't know what's happening in the ongoing negotiations there's not much point in me moaning about it. Don't get me wrong, if it comes to the end of the transfer window and we haven't strengthened I'll be tinkled off as I'm sure the majority of Spurs fans will be, but to say can't we just throw more money at it when I have no idea of the financial implications wouldn't exactly be productive, if it was that easy to do and financially viable I'm sure we'd have done it by now.

But people are calling for this for just about every high profile player we reportedly show an interest in.

Levy does sometimes pay that little bit more, probably based on a lot of factors. From the outside it's very difficult to judge where we should push the boat out and where we should be more patient. I trust Levy, AVB and Baldini to make at least decent decisions here.
