A late winner for AFC Wimbledon saved them from the drop. Barnet will follow Aldershot down due to having a worse goal difference than Dag & Red. Both of them lost their game today.

Redknapp: "Acrimony over wage inequality contributed to QPR's demise"

Absolutely nothing to do with him, though. What, the man who twice broke QPR's transfer record in the same window and signed their highest-paid player of all time, somehow responsible for their financial and organizational mess? How can you even think that !?

Hughes got 24 points from 30 games, Harry got something like 21 from 23. Harry Houdini indeed.

Unless Wigan pick up at least one win from their next two matches there isn't really a relegation battle to talk of, but here goes:

Fulham(40 points): Reading (H), which should seal the deal, followed by Liverpool (H) and Swansea (A)

Stoke(40): Sunderland (H), Tottenham (H), Southampton (A)

Southampton(39): Tottenham (A), Sunderland (A), Stoke (H)

Norwich(38): Aston Villa (H), West Brom (H), Emirates Marketing Project (A)

Sunderland(37): Stoke (H), Southampton (H), Tottenham (A)

Aston Villa(37): Norwich (A), Chelsea (H), Wigan (A)

Saudi Sportswashing Machine(37): West Ham (A), QPR (A), Arsenal (H)

Wigan(32): West Brom (A), Swansea (H), Arsenal (A), Aston Villa (H)

Just thinking about HR speaking about footballers on mega bucks a week not liking or up to playing 3 games in 7 days. It just goes to show that the most important person at the club is the manager. Bleeding obvious?
How can some of the recent results of the relegation clubs be explained? Why do Wigan wind up in the relgation zone every season yet still manage to put in fantastic performances eg against us?
Bit rambling post but whatever?

would be interesting if Saudi Sportswashing Machine joined qpr in relegation - imagine the number of players they would free up for the clubs in the PL getting a bonus from the new TV rights payout.

Saudi Sportswashing Machine are in all kinds of trouble, only 3 points clear of Wigan and playing a game more with 1 goal difference between them and Toon still have Arsenal to play.

If Wigan beat Swansea on Tueday night, everybody from Stoke down could be in with a shout of going down, depending on the outcome of Sunderland v Stoke on Monday night.
Unfortunately that game on Monday is now a no-win situation for us. Sunderland win and Stoke will still a win to be safe.
A Stoke win and Sunderland may not be safe come the last day

Cant moan too much though.......the wigan win and barcodes draw at least keep their upcoming games with the goons live.

What wouldnt help us if either stoke or sunderland just have to played for a point ag us, so can park the bus as we pull our hair out trying to carve out at least one chance.

Very difficult to explain. Why Martinez for example can't get his players playing better earlier in the seasons when they can put in great performances towards the end of seasons seems very strange to me.

Very difficult to say what would be the best outcomes for us for sure.

Seems that it would be best for the teams scum play to have much to fight for and for the teams we play to be either safe or relegated. I suppose a draw between Stoke and Sunderland followed by a Sunderland win against Southampton at the weekend should mean that both teams are safe when we face them. If Saudi Sportswashing Machine lose then Wigan will be in touching distance of them regardless of their result against Swansea.

Then again, it might be better for us to play against teams that are nervous and for arsenal to play against teams that can drop their shoulders a bit and just try to enjoy the end of their season. Sunderland had pressure on them against Villa and absolutely collapsed. QPR gave Arsenal a real fight despite going behind in the opening minute after being confirmed as relegated and Reading won away for just the second time this season after going down. Saudi Sportswashing Machine have had pressure on them for a while now and are without a win in 5. We know Wigan perform well under pressure, other than that it seems that it can almost swing either way.

One interesting scenario: If Villa lose both their games by a single goal and Saudi Sportswashing Machine draw both theirs, they will be tied on points AND goal difference. It would then come down to goals scored. Villa have currently scored one more goal than them, so for example:

Two 1-1 draws for Saudi Sportswashing Machine and two 1-2 defeats for Villa means Villa finish higher.

Two 1-1 draws for Saudi Sportswashing Machine and 0-1 and 1-2 defeats for Villa means they are tied on points, goal difference AND goals scored.

In the second case, IF Wigan, Sunderland, Norwich and Southampton have all overtaken Villa and Saudi Sportswashing Machine, meaning they are tied for a relegation place, there will be a playoff game to decide who goes down.

I'm confident Wigan will tonight that will really puit Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Norwich on squeeky-bum alert

there was at the begining but the premier sides changed it to just the sides in the championship. i think it was the side who finished in the third relegation spot got included.

There will be a relegation playoff if two sides cannot be separated on points, GD or goals scored. The results from their two games against each other during the season are not taken into consideration.

Wigan need at least a point against Arsenal to stand a chance of catching Sunderland and a win to catch those on 40 points. Villa have the worst goal difference and will most likely go down IF Wigan win both their games AND Sunderland get something against us.

Tuesday:

Arsenal - Wigan

Sunday:

Wigan - Aston Villa
Tottenham - Sunderland
Swansea - Fulham
Southampton - Stoke
