Relegation Battle Watch

But there is such a thing as momentum in football. A bad result can lead to a string of bad results as confidence dips. Likewise, as the cliché says, winning becomes a habit.

The alternative is you consider all the games are totally independent. But do you really think our slump last season was just the games we would have lost anyway all came together? It was a tough series of games, but we didn't just lose to the better teams; our poor form carried over to the few easier ones in the run.

That said, QPR winning yesterday and closing to four points could work either way. Perhaps the hope would make them player harder, with more confidence, and get some more wins. Perhaps the pressure would become greater. Now with less pressure they might get a result or two. It's unpredictable, but I'm convinced results have a bearing on each other.

Saudi Sportswashing Machine are far from safe, and dont have an easy run in either

Saudi Sportswashing Machine - Sunderland in a couple of weeks time will be tasty

3rd team to go down looks incredibly tight. Have always thought it would be Villa as their team on paper is awful - a bunch of kids who no-one has ever heard of and cant see to score or keep clean sheets. Imagine what they would have been like without Benteke....

Then again, Sunderland look weak and could well go down. However equally Saudi Sportswashing Machine still have the Europa to contend with and therefore, whilst their next two are v winnable (Fulham and Sunderland at home), they'll might not get the points they should do and could be drawn into the mire....

Think my money would be on Villa though - they look awful

It does seem that some teams are going out of their way to increase prospects of relegation. While I understand these late changes are desperate attempt to get a new manager bounce, it seems the disruption is at least as likely to be disruptive. The row over Di Canio's knowledge of the nuances of history is hardly going to help the players prepare for the next game. It's not as if he can threaten to put them on the next train.

The TV money boost next year is huge so I suppose it is not surprising that managers are getting the bullet in the forlorn hope it will save the club from the drop.

He is a winner. Fergie has not won every single EPL title and he lost today. He is another excellent manager.

I would say Redknapp winning the FA Cup with Portsmouth was a greater achievement than Mancini winning it with Money City. Their team is great though, they should be 10pts clear of Utd at the top.

QPR will find it tough but they can certainly cause others to really sweat if they can grab a couple of wins in their next 4 fixtures. If they can beat Wigan and Stoke at home with maybe a point away at Everton inbetween then they have 30 points going into the game away to Reading. That also works in our favour because if they can beat Reading they suddenly have 33 points going their game against Arsenal where a win or a draw could leave them in a very good position going into the last 2 games.

It all hinges on them getting 2 home wins out of those next 3 fixtures with anything at Everton a bonus. If they don't win those 2 home games then they are done.

QPR or Reading probably need 14 points or so from their final 7 games, or the equivalent of 76 points over a full season. That would probably get 2nd place this year - granted its only for a short period but I cant see either of them playing like the second best team in England over the next 7 games

There is no difference. He crippled the club for the next 30 years paying exhorbitant wages the club couldn't afford in a million years. I know the payments were sanctioned, but he didn't do it within the clubs means, so its actually very similiar to City winning things.

Redknapp did no such thing.

He had nothing to do with the clubs finances, the chairman was the man fully at fault for the debacle at Pompey.

 jesus christ. 10 pts clear of United you say??? you know that United have 77 pts from a possible 90 pts at the moment? If City were to be 10 pts better off that implies they would have 87 pts from a possible 90 pts. :-k hmmmmmmm Thats just unheard of

face it, Utd have themselves been exceptional. If they WANT to win their last 8 games, they are on for 101 pts in a 38 game season. Unbelievable

I noticed on Sunday that Utd have won 16 out of their last 18 league games, how the hell can anyone better that.

exactly, results wise they have been phenomenal. I wouldnt say they have been as fantastic to watch as previous Utd teams, but the way they have churned out the victories and the way they responded to losing the title to City last season has been unbelievably impressive. Machine-like

SAF changes and that has been the key to his success, United stopped being exciting to watch (for the most part) several seasons ago. This season, the games I've seen have been quite dire, what they do extremely well is grind over anyone not in the top 6, that is their success.

SAF is also good at making buys for positions he actually needs (unlike City/Cheat$ki who seem to collect players), RVP has been the difference this year vs. last.
