It's Ukraine now because "the" Ukraine was a term used in Russia to refer to Ukraine as if were not a real country. Essential not accepting it as a noun.

"The" MLS, MLB, NFL, UK etc are initialisms and spoken as such.
Things like NATO, FIFA etc are pronounced like nouns rather than as initials - so having a "the" isn't needed.

Alternatively - scara and marky are just cnuts. fudge em. (Only joking - I know how sensitive you both are :D)

It was common parlance (in the UK at least) until Ukrainians started pointing out a couple of months back that it was pejorative.

That's the great thing with language and integrity - when someone points out why it's wrong, we can all easily change it for the better.

Not sure how I got dragged into this!

I was just taking the tinkle out of The MLS being an irrelevance.

Anyway any truth in the rumours that Putin has the big C? I don't wish it on anyone but there are exceptions!!
