Politics, politics, politics

Interesting that the leader of Turkey is saying he will start letting in migrants again unless Turkey is allowed entry into the EU, something that for reasons that never really mattered to me were important in the Referendum on the EU.

Elections coming up in Germany and France next year, is a good play on Turkeys part.

There is no way that they will be allowed to join the EU any time soon. That was always clearly the case.

How do you honestly think that it is going so far?

To be honest mate its going pretty much as i expected. If you ignore the hot air from the likes of teletext and such, and the entrenched beliefs of the " it will be a disaster" and the " it will be great" tribes its ( imo) far to early to say.

It looks like they are asking for a similar deal to Nissan (as any reasonably sized company will now). If Brexit is such good news for our economy, why are companies asking for the government to pay them to stay here?

The answer to that is has pretty much been answered by Danish.

To be fair companies have been doing that to governments all over the world for years, often playing countries of against each other, one could be cynical and say that as good business as it is by the companies doing it, taking advantage of a political situation to further their own interests. The wifes family is Irish and I spend a fair amount of time over there so know a little about Irish life and they have lowered their taxes to take companies from other countries in Europe.

Is good Business on the car companies part and that is all anything is, Business.

I think that what is being asked here goes a bit beyond lower corporate taxes (which we are also committing to doing). The deal that @parklane1 linked to suggests that they are looking for exemptions to freedom of movement restrictions and a subsidy.

How would you rate the performance of Johnson, Davies and Fox so far?

No, what the link says they are looking for is (But it would depend on the government helping to upgrade power supplies and invest in surrounding infrastructure).

Because their directors are legally bound to do the best job they can for their shareholders. If the government's tinkling money about then they are right to be taking it.

Absolutely. I am not blaming the companies and the government is obviously in a weak position. They would be negligent not to push for subsidies and exemptions from the possibility of the more restrictive elements of Brexit.

And the government simply don't understand how to be conservatives.

They're throwing money around like a drunk Gordon Brown in a cake shop, whilst throwing all their energy into the petty meddling in our lives that blights the left.

This is a negotiation being played out in public, you need to read between the lines.

"The firm would also like a guarantee on access to engineering talent." - that will mean that they do not want restrictions on bringing in workers from the EU and other countries

"But it would depend on the government helping to upgrade power supplies and invest in surrounding infrastructure." - some of that may well have been paid for by the government before Brexit but Jaguar Land Rover are being negligent if they are not pushing for more given the Nisan deal.

And on the Nisan deal, let's just remember that we learnt this week:

They have got themselves into a hole that they do not know how to get out of. They clearly still do not have a plan for Brexit or an agreed position on what we want out of it. They cannot afford for a prominent company to move overseas so will pay any price to keep them here.

As i said earlier its far to early to say for sure what a lot of stuff that is being put on teletext is real or opinion. There are far too many entrenched views being spouted from both sides of the fence.

What anyone says would not make a difference to these guys, we are doomed i tell thee.

The image is taken from the OBR's Autumn Statement report. It is real.

"The Treasury refused to say' Cue the doom and gloom merchants doing what the video above suggests.

Why would the government refuse to say whether there were contingent liabilities in the deal? Normally contingent liabilities have to be included in your accounts, so they cannot be hidden.

Isn't that the infamous Disney 'documentary' where in fact they were guilty of throwing them off the cliff?

I see that Gove is repeating his attacks on experts again this morning. Seems like a good time for this
