Politics, politics, politics

I could understand all the political negativity IF we didn't all have a vote.
But we do, your choices may not get power but that's democracy.
Proportional representation would ba step forward IMHO but the voters said no to that......

I think that folks are negative because its almost impossible to find a honest politician no matter what/who you vote for.

Once again the media have a lot to answer for, since the banal overblown MP's expenses fiasco, which was IMHO the biggest storm in a tea cup politically. MP corruption has become a media cliche and for me politicians are just like any other group in society, there will be good, bad and like the rest of us a healthy mixture of both.

Can not agree with that at all, we vote for politicians because they are supposed to do good things for the country and we hope that they will be honest in what they say and do. I do not believe they are any out there that have principals and will lie through their teeth to get your vote.

I understand your point about there being good and bad in most things but our leaders are expected to be trusted to do what is best for the country, not for themselves or those who support them with donations. This ( imo) does not happen anymore.

Not sure it ever did.
They are just like the rest of us, trying to give it their best shot and sometimes falling short!

I have found cynicism increases in its intensity as we get older, it is something I personally try to push back against or can consume everything we care most about.

I suspect that Corbyn will win their leadership campaign and it will be the rest who become the People's Front of Judea.

I think that Corbyn will win the leadership campaign (although I am hoping that my run of calling these things wrong continues) but I am not sure that there will be a breakaway. I think that it is more likely that they hang on and have another go at toppling him in a years time.

For a breakaway to be feasible, they need to be sure of taking the majority of Labour MPs with them. That way they become the opposition and the short money follows them. If they could take a union or two with them, it might be feasible but that is a lot to pull off and Labour MPs aren't very good at this kind of thing.

It's only democracy when there is clear choice and low barriers to entry to run and stand a chance of being elected

We do not have that

Also, people voted against AV, not PR.
A vote on PR was what people wanted, that was vetoed by the Tories and Labour.....tell me about this decomcracy again of which you speak

The democracy that allows you and those like you with determination to change things.

If people really wanted PR that much they'd have voted for the Student Party

Only idiots would vote for a party on the basis of a single policy
The country's full of people who voted for a party because they did last year, or because their parents did, or because that's what you do if you live in that area.

Voting for a party on the basis of one policy would be an improvement!

The problem is no party has a policy that does not protect the status quo, ie what suits them and their paymasters best.

I find all this train/sitting on the floor b0llocks depressing on all sides. Very disappointed in Corbyn if he's come up with some cheap stunt. What would be the point? Just point to our own poster's love of Southern Railway to make a case for doing something different with our rail system. No need for any nonsense.

Then the other side, waiting 'til the olympics is over with, get this trivial crap in the news cycle. There are proper arguments and debates to be had for and against Corbyn policies, I wish the news would be a bit more serious about it all.

I've already voted for Corbyn in the leadership contest, did it online. I'm not interested in a cult of personality, though I know that a fair few of his voters are. I am interested in the left-wing policies he espouses and the democratisation of the Labour Party, and the choice given to the wider electorate come a general election. I hope the he paves the way for another left-wing leader in the future.
