Pedro Porro

Spence definitely needs to be in at right back. He is a better defender and right now we do need to tighten up at the back. Any improvement has to come from the back forwards. If we can keep clean sheets then we only need a goal to win. I don’t want us to sacrifice attacking play but there are steps to tighten us defensively that can be taken without needing to revert to park the bus football and Penge in for Porro is one of those steps for now.

Penge??

I know this is going to be dismissed by a few but in one way he reminds me a little bit like Trent at Liverpool, as a FB both are substandard but i can see Porro fiting in further upfield. He has pace and can pass a great ball.

He's very similar to TAA, I'd argue he's a better defender. I swear people are weird with their understanding of the game, so many of our fans would bin Porro and Johnson, can you imagine where this team would be without their offensive contributions? It's on the fudging manager to compensate for any defensive or workrate (Johnson) challenges that creates

How good would Spence, or anyone, look having more or less played 90 minutes twice a week for a couple of months with a disjointed team around them?

I rate Spence very highly and he offers a lot of quality. In terms of quality passing, long passing and crossing Porro is a stand out in this team, particularly with the current injuries.

On performances this season I'd drop Udogie before Porro, but ideally want to see more or less equal rotation between the three of them.

I’d never made that link but yes you and Parkie are spot on.

Both are box office with outstanding technique and either could play for Madrid.

We should be lauding him not giving him a hard time.

A midweek off and imo we had the good quality version of Porro back. Loads of intensity, good on the ball. Sometimes in trouble defensively, but more down to him being in difficult to defend situations rather than him not defending well.

I just want him to work on his crossing, as that was one of his supposed strengths (I thought) when we signed him. I know teams are able to pack their boxes with players since our build-up is generally so slow and ponderous, so maybe his crossing would be fine if opposition defenders are running towards their own goal while trying to mark our attacking players.

Strange timing on the feedback, he put quite a few very dangerous crosses in against Forest, more than one the Spurs player got to.

Perhaps, and it's my opinion on Porro's crossing over the course of the season. I do feel like he hoofs the ball from deep often but it just goes into no-man's land for the opposition to gather. He's had some really good crosses, but I feel like with his ability, he should have more successful crosses into the box from the final third. I did say that it might not be entirely on him though, and that maybe the system is what's at fault here versus the player.

IMO, there needs to be some more variety to the type of cross he delivers, maybe knowing when to go high or low, how much power, etc. The thing is, it's not like we've really got any crosses coming in from the left side, correct? So maybe we're simply too predictable on that front. As far as I can tell, Udogie might be instructed to keep the ball on the ground as he doesn't seem to play too many aerial balls into the box, but maybe I'm wrong.

Our default cross (as far as I can tell) is low, across the box for the far post tap in (Johnson mostly)

I agree, we now have two strikers (Richi/Solanke) who can fight for stuff in the air, we should mix it up.

I'll go back to it's really difficult to evaluate anyone in this current system.

Is there any reason why he frantically shakes his hand whenever someone fouls him in the foot/leg? Almost like his hands get continuously trodden on but no one else can see it.

Porro put in as many crosses as the rest of our wide players put together last night but due to the insistence on fullbacks underlapping then most were from a less than optimal position, especially against such a deep set and well organised defence.
