Les Medley
Overall....he's my favourite player.
Reminds me of that huge pain in Spurs' ass, Patrick Vieira. He really is turning into a VERY good player and only 22.
Bit confusing for the commentators though.Reminds me of that huge pain in Spurs' ass, Patrick Vieira.
In matches when he has a challenge with an opponent, he always telescopes out a leg to get there, or rises higher to head it, or puts on a burst of pace, or runs that bit further than them, he just seems 10% better than most opponents as he glides around.
Very nice to see him growing and adding goals.
Imagine a team containing 5 Pape Sarr's, would be prettttttty good.
I don’t think playing the 6 is his game though, he has a good pass and an amazing engine, traditional box to box in the 8 role for me. He needs a Bentacur or perhaps even Gray assuming everyone is right about him being a DM, to be holding next to him.Starting to feel sorry for this kid. He is not being coached so well in my opinion,.
Against Everton there were once again major judgment call issues with his play, mostly down to the high press that just gets passed around. You can't protect your defence if you are playing 6 and are high up the pitch.

This is happening under the same manager and most of the coaches he previously thrived under though.Starting to feel sorry for this kid. He is not being coached so well in my opinion,.

The difference between a 6 and 8 role is a rather large one. The difference between what we require from our number 6 in this system and how Sarr plays the 8 role even more so.It's not that though. The theme has been there for the entire 18 months that number 6's aren't allowed to play a 6 role under Ange. Sarr should be able to suck it up and play slightly out of position, and probably could. It's the pressure of the other roles that go into the 6 shirt under Ange that is the problem. Reared its ugly head again yesterday.

Bentacur and Bissouma are arguably both more natural in an 8 role, but have the skillset to do a good job as a 6. Imo Sarr doesn't, yet at least, and not in this system.
All this assuming a single pivot. Double pivot and it's a bit different imo.
Off the ball our pressing has looked disjointed for a while now. Too many key players missing, too many tired players. I don't think that's on Sarr individually, though he's also not at a stage where he really compensates for that, if he ever will. Not sure what it is, but it is very frustrating watching Sarr take himself out of the game in key moments when we need him. I don't want him thought of like Sissoko, but Moussa had the same heart beats head problem as well. Left his team mates so exposed with his unintelligent running.
He needs a break. Kid has probably never got close to playing this much before in such an exhausting system.

Good point and i tend to agree, he is still young 22 and adjusting to a midfield which is badly run over more often then not.
He's featured 4 times in January, anywhere between 45 and 73 mins. I think there was a one game suspension in the FA Cup. So he's come down to a manageable rate. Only completed 90 mins twice in December as well. He seems to be being managed OK and probably frustrated he can't get more minutes. That's what 22 year olds do.
He actually looked quite fresh when he was subbed on Sunday. I thought it was a strange decision as he was overrunning old boys like Doucoure.
I was not calling him out or suggesting he was not good enough, just saying that pressure can build up on young players and the teams form at the moment is not helping him to be at his best in a M/F that is full of holes.
Yeah, I think this round of posts started with me being concerned about Sarr's nurturing and the tactical system. I think we've got to the point where it seems that his playing time is being managed well. The question now becomes how we help him get better and better. I think you're right that player's confidence comes and goes with the results and what is happening around him. Ironically, that shambolic first half was more down to Son and Madds than either of our 2 kids in midfield. Madds gave them absolutely no support in the engine room. Son just ahead of them let their defence walk through to the midfield zone uncontested.
I think that would be the biggest "fix" if the right player could be found. But failing that other players could help mitigate our shortcomings in midfield too.I know some will disagree we me over this but our midfield is our real weakness, Madds is a highlite player and has been at his previous clubs, Sarr is being worked to a standstill and is expected to carry our M/F [ and is only a kid really].
Add to that Biss is a player with talent but has always been a hit or miss player both here and at his previous club and will be 29 this year so i do not exspect that to change. Bents is [imo] our best CM player but we all know the problems he has faced this season getting onto the pitch.
I accept that some will disagree with me but we really need to sort our CM out if we ever want to progress on a regular basis. I have been banging on all season that we need a DM badly if we are to stop opposing players running through our M/F at will.

Yes, DM/6.I assume you are talking about a DM, i have heard some say that Grey could do the job but he is really young to expect him to fill that gap straight away imo. Maybe long term but for me its one of the most important posistions in any team and allthough Grey has lots of talent he will still have periods when he struggles in games [ because of his age].

Passengers with regards to work rate and intensity simply won't work. That's part of what we're seeing now, but because the players are lazy, but some of them are fatigued imo.I think more will agree than disagree. So many of our line-ups have passengers in them with less expectation on work-rate and intensity than the others. I do think there is a fundamental flaw in the way that Ange sets up a midfield though. So one root cause might be personnel. The other root cause is tactics. The wide player contribution, especially Sonny is another root cause.
This interested me on 20 year old Facundo Buonanotte

This kid is playing for Leicester on loan from Brighton. Has started 13 games with 5 goals, 2 assists. Sub in another 8. Has got himself booked 6 times as well.
Similar to what we saw with Ndiaye on Sunday, what does Spurs look like with a proper industrious, foot in, wide player working with our midfielders? I can see why Spurs could be easily tracking Buonanotte. If we get guys like Moore, Yang, Odobert, Johnson up to this level of industry and have them all available we'll be in a different place in my opinion.
If that midfielder leader comes in as well, then reasons to be optimistic.
