Our Dream Team from the 2000s

Exactly that, kept the ball extremely well, plus broke the lines

Best version of Dembele sucked in the pressure, then walked through the opposition line and passed the ball early to front line.

No better at transitioning our team through the thirds in my mind. It's a subtle art that we've struggled with ever since he left.

It's one of those deeper football conversations

Effectively every team sets up in lines, and progressing the ball effectively is partially breaking those lines (pass, dribble, carry)

Dembele could simply glide through an opposition line because he was almost impossible to dispossess

That sounds great on paper, but I don't remember him scoring much, don't remember him assisting much, don't remember him assisting the assist much, don't remember anyone coming in for him. I enjoyed watching him play, but if I had to put out a team to win things, it wouldn't include him.

Ziege as LB, for me, best I have seen, shame we had him at the end, even then he was technically going both ways one of the best LBs in world football......World Class

Fantastic player but injury prone. How Ange would love a prime Ziege in this current tactical system.

For whatever reason, nothing really sticks in my mind from when he was playing for us.

Hoddles side for a period, till it ran out of legs and Richards got injured was absolutely phenomenal to watch and he was a massive part of that, true wand of a left foot, one of the best set piece takers the games seen and a genuine goalscoring LB, he was also very good defensively.

Likewise I don't remember Dembele ever passing the ball forward quickly. He was a possession monster but he didn't half hog the ball beyond the point of a momentum loss.

With my team I was in confliction between BAE and Rose. Rose probably had the higher peak but it was as mentioned very short lived whereas Ekotton was better for a much longer stint.

Wanyama or Dembele was pretty easy for me, I took the proper DM and the rest of the positions kind of just picked themselves.

Loved Wanyama, but he was actually a one season wonder because of that horrible injury. He was a massive reason why we elevated ourselves to 86 PL points in 16/17. Then that knee (?) injury happened and his super power went and he was just mortal again. One of these situations where you can't blame the recruitment. We bought a player at a great age who has ended up in the retirement home in the MLS through bad luck.
