***OMT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Roma***

But did you not see people concluding that the goals we've been conceding where down solely to Romero's presence? Our non picking up of players on crosses is just what happens in an Ange team.

Weirdly I don't even see yesterday as especially negative, maybe because I didn't take the City game as meaning all that much in the grand scheme of things. We played a good side albeit in poor form but a good side nonetheless, we had the better of the first half, they had the better of the 2nd. A draw was a fair result in reflection.

The goals and the chances we concede are because that's the way we play and the coach doesn't really see it as an issue. He wants to score and blow the opposition away, cool we just need to improve the attack to make that a reality.
I have seen that Romero opinion, or a somewhat weaker version of that. I've been disagreeing with it for weeks now...

I definitely think Ange prioritises defending too. But we rarely defend in a deep line. One is not inherently better than the other.

Part of why he prioritises midfielders and forwards that can press and run a lot is that we need for our defending to work.

I do agree that we need to improve our attack too. We've been short a dribbly winger since he came here, that's why we signed Odobert, unfortunately he's barely been on the pitch.

Solanke has been quality, goodness knows where we would be without his constant pressing and physicality. Yesterday wasn't his best game but when he's constantly being played, with his high energy game you're going to get the odd average/poor performance. He is the least of our problems....
I realise I’m very much on my own here. I’m hoping that by the end of the season he scores the amount of goals he should for someone with his price tag and playing in a team creating as much as we do.

I’m after a bit more then hard work and graft, that’s a bare minimum imo.

Hopefully I’m wrong in May and he has 20+ on the board.

I'd agree. Can't fault his work rate, and he does help to create chances for others - both through assists and through his endless running off the ball - but I'm hoping that the goal tally will begin to tick up soon...

Listen, you can yap all you want about he took such and such off because of yellow cards. It doesnt excuse the fact they played like Nicola Berti and Toda. The players on that pitch should be sent to Japan and taught how to hang their heads in shame.

Every single player needs to reflect and if they repeat this crap, then frankly fudge them.

My son was a mascot in 2002/03 season for an April game against Emirates Marketing Project. He was 10 at the time. I told him to take a few shots on Keller and demand passes from (skipper) Teddy. He did this with gusto, amassing no less than 12 shots on goal, with half of them going in. Keller went for the last three and could not get near them. He was having such a good time, he literally walked off right before the KO. As he made his way up the touchline City went one up. One wag in the crowd shouted, "Stay out there Son, it's you or no-one today...I mean, we're playing with TODA!" This man continued to berate Toda for 90- minutes. I never forgot it.

You should change those undies Cundy.

It's the cumulative effects of players injured, play in need of rotation and tired legs from those who weren't rotated imo. I agree that Vicario missing is an important factor, but even "just" Richarlison and Odobert/Moore for fresh legs in the second half probably makes a difference in this game.

Agree that Gray did well.

Thought Bergvall did well too when he came on, but for his development 10 minute cameos won't do much. If that will be the case in the second half of the season I agree that a loan could be useful.

Agreed. We struggled a bit, but Roma also looked quite good.

Both teams struggled defensively while offering real threats in attack.

Obviously disappointing to drop points at the end like that, and disappointing to give up so many chances. But we should all know by now that getting to consistency will take some time and that this wasn't going to be an easy game.

We are paying right now for squad building decisions, some learning on the job, and some bizarre squad management. Gray would've been able to play/come on in midfield had we either
a) signed a LB in the summer of
b) not ballsed up the squad management to a point where we could not register Spence in our Europa squad.

Bergvall will be an excellent player, but he clearly will need more development time than Gray. If we want to push on this season, we have to loan him in January and bring someone in, even on a short deal.

For all the angst on our defence -and the concession was accumulatively weak for sure - I agree with the manager, this game has to be out of sight by then. Sonny's miss in the first-half was horrific!

Have to ask, what exactly was Biss doing for their goal positionally, and I can only assume Werner is instructed to push out because he literally moved the other way, and Porro must've just been dead on his feet? Bergvall did well to win the initial header in the box.

I agree, Roma have good players with pedigree.

Bergvall played his best game for us imo
He was winning header
Hit the ball over the top for Werner that we never play (long diagonal)
He played like a man rather than a kid
Shame some others were too knackered at that point

But we didn't get anywhere near that bare minimum from the prior guy (Spurs legend) in his last 2-3 years at the club. He hid behind his goals rather than get judged on pulling on our shirt and crossing the white line with a totally professional attitude.

It would be great if Solanke hits that 20 goal milestone.

Unfortunate too that he and Maddison never make a good combination on the pitch. We really needed a Sarr-like player to help see it out. What a shame Pape wasn't on the pitch (albeit the man has to rest sometimes!)...agreed though, I thought Bergvall overall did well. That ball was really good!

It's parrly the way he is set up. Kinda like kane under conte when son won the golden boot. He is there for forward pressure, to hold and lay off and progress.

If anything the midfield haven't given him enough chances imo. He's had to scrap a lot and I much prefer solanke to richy, but I guess to be fair to richy he hasn't had a run in this 2nd season ange team yet.
