Maybe it’s something to do with not trying to tire ourselves out too early? Robertson was wide open just then from VDV…VdV didn’t play it, seems intentional.

It’s weird…I thought that was our worst first half of the season. Maybe we are a bit more solid, maybe we’ve been a bit less hell for leather in attack. It’s been fine. But I think we’ve been far better in the previous games where it’s been very obvious we should have scored. But great to be ahead.

Also think if 3-4-3 is intended to neutralise Cov’s direct play, that might be having an impact on our possession game. They’re crowding the middle, it’s hard to find space. Gray is taking up some very interesting positions though.

Think and hope we’ll pick up second half.

It's partly that we only have one winger in Kudus on the pitch. Kudus has seen quite a lot of the ball to be fair and let's be real who are we crossing to even if we use the wings? Robertson had one in the first few minutes and Solanke was incredibly slow to react to it, he really should have been anticipating the cross coming in but nope of course not.
 
Ok half, Maddison is the difference.

I havent felt we’ve looked as dangerous, we’re ahead mostly because we finally have some quality playing in the 10 role, and because he took a shot on when usually we’d go for another 7 passes.

It feels a game where Coventry nick a goal from a set piece or break away, it’s also terrifying watching us defend at times. So we need to find that second goal from somewhere as I doubt Maddison plays the 90.

Not bad of course and thank GHod we’ve taken the lead for a change, but I think we need to step it up if we want all three points at the end of this.

That will always be the conundrum with Madders. Yes, right now we need him. But if the team starts to function like a well oiled machine...Madders becomes a bottleneck.

Presumably the whole league has agreed to this, but how can something so clearly a bad idea get imposed outside of a rights negotiation?
