OMT ** Tottenham Hotspur v Wolves ** 29 December 2024.

Personally, and I may get slatted for this, but we are no where near the top 4 even though at times we play some decent stuff going forward When we go forward because let’s be honest against Paace, Ipswich, Bournemouth we were shocking.
At the moments when people say you should be beating teams like Wolves and Fulham I’m like “why” what makes you think Spurs can beat these teams? We are in a scrap now for sure and I’m behind the team and think we will finish 8th or 9th in reality
Put a 1 in front of your expected finishes and that's where we are currently heading.

That was a sh** show of a performance. Result was ok, could have been worse. Could have been better. But anyone watching recent games thinking there is progress happening or the foundations being built for something need their head examining. If they're being honest most people that are "Ange in" at this point are not that way out because they think he's going to turn this around and create anything at Spurs, they're Ange In because they're tired and they can't be bothered with the club starting again after yet another poor choice of manager.

Couldn't watch it today, Other than injury time. How bad was it?
I don't think we played badly. Thought we played some good stuff, especially in the 1st half. We weren't really troubled defensively. They scored a wonder goal from set piece. 2nd half was scruffy, with lots of breaks. Not much football was played, and we managed the game well imo. Game had completely died out, and they score another worldie. Strand Larsen will never ever score a better goal in his career. We had chances and should have won, but didn’t play badly. Not great, not too bad. Disappointing to lose that. Though Bentancur played well, until his idiotic yellow card. Kulu was good, and Gray and Dragu did well.

Yep, it's how I saw the game. It was a winning draw.

I guess the question is whether a winning draw is good enough? We can probably all agree that Dragusin and Gray were able deputies for our first choice centre backs, and Forster was mostly unoccupied. We had a very strong side out with some freshness coming from players that had recently been injured/suspended/rotated. We can't really use that as an excuse, with a strong bench to freshen it up anyway. Finally, we were also at home and the xG from their actual goals worked against us. On another day, nether go in.

I've posted this already, but I didn't expect us to go from woeful to spectacular in a week. Whilst the recent trend is in the right direction, I'm not sure a draw relieves the pressure on the manager. Rightly so as well. He needs to get something better together quickly now.

Another frustrating game, very much reflecting our season.

We failed to put the game to bed. Madison, Solanke, Son, Werner all with fantastic openings to score or setup a 3rd goal. And then we would have coasted home. Forster doesn’t protect his near post and they score a worldie. It’s a 1 out of 20 shot, that goes in.

Were we brilliant? No. But we should have been good enough to win.

We are a bit compromised atm. Not committing forward as much to get the third and with tired attackers we lack some
knock out punch. And we’re not good enough defensively to see out the game with all but Poro being stand ins. Our passing is also a bit compromised atm meaning we give up the ball too frequently. Often it’s passes that reach their man but are a bit hard to control, too slow etc. We need to refine our passing so the player receiving the ball can use it quickly and doesn’t struggle to control it.

Still massively impressed with how Gray is looking. There are moments of inexperience, and others where he shows his skill. I’m also impressed with Dragusin who has the physicality and instincts. Sometimes he lacks finesse and isn’t yet playing the ball out with confidence. Bentancur always seems to take a few games to get into his groove after he’s been out. Again today he didn’t seem fully up to speed, but great to have him back.

Gray deserves a run of starts in CM when the CBs are back

He should not be going back to the bench

He’ll probably get benched like Dragusin as soon as the Romero and van der Ven are back.

Although Gray might be needed at LB if Udogie’s injury takes a while to clear up, as we’ve got 8 games next month and Spence probably won’t be fit enough to play 180 minutes per week after so little game time these past few months.

Bit surprised by the hair-pulling and teeth-gnashing going on tbh. I watched the last 30 minutes and didn't think it was that dreadful, we've certainly been a lot worse in previous games.
We appeared to be doing what people have been clamouring for us to do, and that is manage the game better when in the lead. The full-backs appeared to be operating in a more standard back 4 and weren't pushing forward as much for example.
They scored a wordly, but if Solanke/Sarr had taken chances we'd have comfortable won.
It was by no means a great performance, but considering the circumstances I think some of the wailing in here is OTT.

Wasn't bad against Wolves at home is the high water mark?

Based on that performance, do you see us beating Saudi Sportswashing Machine? or Liverpool or Arsenal? because that is 3 of our next 4 fixtures

To others points, Gray continues to be one of the few bright lights of this season

Where did I say it was a high water mark? I said it wasn't a great performance, but taken in context I don't think it warrants some of the hysterical reactions on here (though that shouldn't surprise me).
Do I see us beating Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Liverpool or Arsenal? No - because we have a massive injury list which is impacting how we can play. But then again, I didn't see us beating Emirates Marketing Project 4-0 either.
It's a funny old game.

No team is easy in this league
A team who won their last two with a new manager is never easy again
But hey we should smash wolves like we did last season and the one before
