NOW you're overreacting. To dismiss 50 yeara of history because of ONE? No, TWO. With this season better than last because we have more points than ever.

We found a manager who has been able to build and create the club on field without spending bast amounts of money, allowing us to persue and go on the path of realizing our new stadium. We will move to Wembley next season with CL money in the bag and a HUGE boost to our income, thus allowing investment in the squad if we need it. This club is en route to an incredible journey, a really superb future, and this manager has been a HUGE part of making it all possible. When Arry fudged us over for the England job and fudged our CL chances, when AVB went crackers on us, when Nice But Dim gileted his way into the hot-seat, I could NEVER have imagined being a title chasing club. We are now. Regularly. We will win trophies soon. Save this post and if I'm wrong I will have no issue apologizing.

Well, you know my views regarding last year - the ultimate fact of the matter is that we only secured as many points as we did under Redknapp in 2009-2010, but were rewarded with a better finish as a result. It was a good season, but I feel like only this year can we confidently say that Poch has engineered the sea change in our attitudes and mentality that was glimpsed last year - *at times*. This year, it's been there throughout.

You will never have cause to apologize to me, mate - why would you? Who in their right mind would really demand an apology from someone for being optimistic? It's just...really small-minded. And, even assuming that I was Scrooge McDuck and would demand an apology from you in more straightened circumstances, I see no need to call for one - because I fully agree with you.

We're *going* to do great things.

But we haven't done them yet.

And until we do, we will not shake off the persistent worm at the back of our heads that tells us that a Spurs-y moment is around the corner. Thankfully, this process of evolution has reduced them to a bare minimum, but they still pop up from time to time - only repudiating our history of the last half century will fully drive them away forever. Doing great things, laying down a marker in football history as bright as the one Sir Alex laid down over two decades. Banishing the ghosts of our past.

I'm starting to believe, for the first time, that Poch will do such things if he stays. But the difference is, I recognize that he hasn't done them yet. And thus, the spectre still holds, imo. It would be disrespectful to the memory of all the good and great managers and players from the day Bill Nic victoriously held the league trophy aloft in 1961 to today to claim that just one season finishing on 77-80+ points (hopefully) has conclusively banished the weathering of fifty-six long years.
 
Plus today was our 4th game in 13 days. Cheat$ki get an extra two days for their 4th. I know I moaned about playing after the team we're chasing but at the end of a long season it's a lot of games in a short space of time.
 
Depressed after this result. Catching Chelsea was always going to be tough, but would have liked to see us in the title race till the last moment possible.

Spam did to us the same as last year, only this time we had a few more chances to score. Especially Kane in the first half where he shot at the keeper, instead of the left corner, which was wide open.

Anyways, it's been a great season and here's to finishing it with 3 wins on the trot!
 
we were off today from kick off, but lets have some perspective here, prior to this match we had just won 9 games in a row, i've never seen that in my lifetime supporting tottenham and i'm in not in my 20's or 30's, I bet a lot on sports and if there's one thing I can tell you is that there is such a fine line between winning and losing, the bounce of a ball can decide a match and there's an inevitable level of complacency in winning x number of games in a row, players drop their guard and the odd disappointing performance is inevitable, we managed to eke out a win against palace playing below our best but couldn't do it today, Blackburn, (yeh they really did win the PL) won playing ugly and I hope we develop that mentality because you don't win games with style points but by grinding out results, bar ridiculous results we should finish 2nd, so that makes 3rd last season, 2nd this year, next year, well there's a natural symmetry to that, right ?

Yep. :) 27 points out of 30 can hardly be called bottling. We've been the only team capable of putting pressure on Chelsea. Everyone had them down as winners as soon as Liverpool collapsed after new year.

We've had a good season, but it's not over yet. I really hope we manage to muster up a proud finish to the season!

And you know, a couple of chelski defeats and who knows. :D

We have had a good league season, the next step is for us to try and balance Europe and the league, which was a bit of a disaster!
 
How long can the club afford to be patient? The likes of Kane, Eriksen, Rose, Toby and Alli will want to be winning titles NOW!!!!! They will not hang around indefinitely. Even the established top four sides have window of opportunity to win the league, that all too soon pass and they break down the squad. We are in that window right now and have to take advantage, otherwise the above players will be off and who could really blame them if they did.

I agree. We blew it the last time two times we were in the CL (under Redknapp and last year) by not sufficiently improving the squad with quality players. We must not do the same. This close season is critical. We simply must not fudge it up.

i don't really buy this narrative at the moment, unless some of our players plan to go to Celtic. No other club can GUARANTEE silverware and we have been right there over the past two years. They have as good a chance of winning something if they stick with us as they do by moving, I'd say.

Just ask some of those who moved to City for big money last summer.

But don't forget their the players who didn't win last night too

We will strengthen im sure but I'm also sure someone will leave and be replaced. Next season will be a rollercoaster because of where we're heading and if more wanna jump ship then so be it.

First off, he has done great things. For the first time since Sir Bill, we will again be in the top 3. Not even Burky did that in twice the time (and he won some pots and had us playing some great stuff). Sorry, but given what Poch has had to deal with in terms of where we were, who we had and what money we don't have compared to all around us, yes, he is doing great things and has already achieved some. You seem unable to recognize that! No matter - we all want the same thing and I believe it will happen. As for the weathering of '56 longs years' again, between 1981-85 I saw us win two FA Cups and a Uefa Cup. Not bad 'weathering' IMO. 'Disrespectful to the memory...?' What on EARTH is in your tea man?!!!!!

I meant that we achieved better things in the fifty years post 1961 without being able to achieve league success - the UEFA Cups you mention, the FA Cups, all of them. None of those were ultimately able to prove a springboard for sustained league success, or even a single league title since 1961 - but we still celebrate them as significant additions to the history of our club, and the teams that won them as significant contributors to our story. However, to then say that those seasons were unable to break the spell but that this one great season (that will almost surely end trophyless) many years later has *definitely* concluded our tendency to be Spurs-y for all time is just...*really* premature, and isn't fair to teams of our past given that we won actual silverware and had other successful seasons without being able to break that particular curse.

We'll see. I know your views regarding Poch, and I respect them - but I disagree. I give him an awful lot of credit, and he's slowly but surely winning me over to the same extent that he won you over - but I'm not quite ready to go all in and proclaim him our Ferguson or anything like that *just* yet.

I don't really see what you're getting so red in the face over, to be honest. I've stated over in the Poch thread what my position is - the man is indubitably doing amazing things, and he's conclusively earned my trust and whatever time he needs. I've stated here that he *will* do great things. What is so surprising, though, about being hesitant to call him our Sir Alex?

...there is a lot of weight to that label. Which is why I mean what I say when I state that only someone like *that* can change our history enough to wipe Spurs-y off the face of the earth once and for all. Poch is best-placed to be that man, in time. But he is not that man yet. And no one can feasibly claim him to be, *yet*.
 
I still feel gutted this morning. But looking at things in the context of our whole season so far, it's one very rare loss, not a derailment of all the good we have achieved. Spam fans will be overjoyed at seemingly stopping our pursuit of something we were in all likeliness not going to achieve, and I'll have to endure that for a couple of weeks no doubt. But I much prefer that our season is defined by the good we are doing for ourselves rather than being defined by 'thwarting' another team.

I expect the players to pick themselves up and focus positively on winning our remaining games. And if I expect it of them, then I won't allow myself to wallow either (well, maybe just a little bit today).
Whatever happens now it's been an amazing season.
