***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Saturday August 29th, 5.30pm, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium***

It needs a higher degree of aggression and will IMO. For me, this is precisely what we have lost with Romero. I know he's not a cool name around these parts, but he is tough and uncompromising.
But we conceded more when he started than Danso. We were more solid in those final games with Danso next to VDV

If we can only win games with our strongest 11 the. We might as well pack it all in
We saw this last year though. Our squad was tosh and we barely won any games. We bought 9 players yes but that isn't going to change us from losing every week to winning most weeks and if we are forced to play largely the same players who almost got us relegated last season then what can we really expect?

This isn't even a hindsight thing, I've been saying multiple times in multiple threads even before the season started that our new quality is good but it's paper thin. Behind the new names there's same brick that almost took us down last year. We haven't leapfrogged from a 17th team to a 5th with these signings. I'll keep saying it, but these signings we've made have just taken us back to being a decent side. But a decent side is one that if it doesn't take it chances can quite easily lose to Saudi Sportswashing Machine. Last week against Brentford was a relegation lineup, as soon as we saw the lineup we knew what was gonna happen. 🤣

I liked the intent of where RDZ wants us to be football-wise.
I think we can see what he wants, and there were moments when we looked great today, especially in the first-half.
I think we're lacking that togetherness and deep belief, that will take time and patience to drop in for sure. We need more leadership out there.
In Fernandes it looks like we might have a generational talent, plus he has the potential to become a leader for sure. Marmoush is a delightful player. Good to see Kudus get minutes. Tonali looks like is still puffing a bit, almost like he is off peak condition in some weird pre-season mode; flashes of real quality but needs to find rhythm and quickly.
Not sure if true, but I believe the plan was to start a front three of Marmoush Solanke and Savio, with Porro and Udogie at RB and LB. Apparently, once agreed that Savio should not be risked, the thought was Tel would need Robbo's protection? I'd like to have seen how that suggested 11 did?

It is such a tough time in respect of the fact we've been battered for two seasons now, and this is a very different team/situation which actually truly requires patience and belief, yet will have to pay for the shadows cast the past 24 months.

I think by the end of Sept we'll have hit some stride and be absolutely fine. That's belief and trust. AND I am worried about our lack of current physicality.

As I tried to say mate, a whole different set of requirements were needed in those final games, ones which suited him. I am not trying to relitigate a Romero discussion here -it was time for him to leave thanks to various, and 'went' he has gone- just pointing out why Danso will not be a regular starter under RDZ.

Danso is leaving
Confirmed by RDz

That's a huge bummer. He's been our most reliable defender for a year and half, in my opinion. We need a guy like him back there. I love van Hecke's passing ability, and VdV's speed, but I think they both lack a commanding presence back there to instill confidence and calmness for the team. It doesn't help that Kinsky is a bit hit or miss either, of course (which, by all means, is understandable).

Apparently so but I'm sure you could confirm that yourself.

Games Spence started or played 45 Minutes +
24/25 & 25/26
60 Games
21 Wins / 9 Draws / 30 Losses - 1.20 PPG

Games where Spence played under 45 Minutes
24/25 & 25/26
52 Games
22 Wins / 13 Draws / 17 Losses - 1.52 PPG
72 Goals Conceded - 1.38 GCPG
13 Clean Sheets - 25.00%

Couldn't watch the match today. Plumber arrived 5mins before kickoff.

What's the executive summary of how it panned out today? Any positives?

Banks and VAR were again brick.

EVERY other side in the league gets a pen for that foul on Marmoush IMO...
Something needs to be done about it now. This can sound like sour grapes but it's quite clear we are playing 12 men every fudging match..

Marmoush gets that pen and it's a different game.

Many will probably disagree with me, but I thought we showed a lot of positive signs going forward - lots of nice combinations at times, better ball control and passing all over the pitch, just little details missing, players moving a little bit off one another in combinations - stuff you have to believe will improve when they get more time together and learn the system more. We played well in the first half, then lost some momentum in the second half, but the first goal they got was a sucker punch, their first shot at goal, and they hadn't really looked like scoring. Tonali looked really good in patches, Fernandes had another good game, Robertson was good I thought, Marmoush looked lively (could've scored two with a little more luck), Hecke had a lot of great passes out of defense, but I don't feel comfortable with him and VdV defending back there (at least not yet). Tel was not good, in my opinion - just looked quite clumsy.

I saw a lot of positives today - I think we'll click and score goals - but the defensive side of things worries me a little bit. We looked frail at times.

Its been two games and I think by halfway point of the season we will be wondering what all this fuss was about :)....
