***OMT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v nottingham forest***

I would argue that it's proved to not be an effective tactic
I don't hate the idea, but I don't think it works with the calibre of player we have. It requires too high a degree of perfection from defenders and constant overloads offensively.

I don't think it would be outrageous to tweak things a touch and maybe not have the FBs tucking so close and so high. We just leave soon much space for the opposition to play into if they beat the press or we lose it on the attack.

Look at whenever we attacks we are always outnumbered by Forest players. They make it difficult to play against. We are the opposite, it's just too easy to get at our necks.

But the shield could come from the Fb's tucking in to make a 3 in front of the Cb's. That's how most teams do it now.

Then you still have your 5 attacking players but some cover.

Nah, it's not how most teams do it. I get what you're saying, but it's not working for Spurs.

I agree, it's unusual to have a possession based team commitment so many men ahead of the ball, as it leaves you so exposed.

For their gaols we had numbers back
But we were going backwards which is the worst way to defend

If you attack with a 5 across the line it is. It's not working cause we don't do it

There are various ways to implement it but most tactical systems maintain cover in the wide area and central shield. We just have a central shield of 1 player and then wonder why he's constantly not where the danger is.

It wouldn't matter if we had Rodri in there, he'd still get overrun

Overall, I think we were decent in that half. A few poor decisions in the final third and our by now totally expected problems when we get caught on the break. We should have scored a couple though and Johnson was quite involved for a change. Sonny though....get him off.

This, so far, feels a bit similar to Palace. They’re dealing with us with ease so far and we look a bit devoid of ideas and energy.

I think we've played far better today. I think we havent been to shabby, actually. Not great, but we manage to do a little bit here and there around a wall of a defense. Not too bad.

Son is off it again though, does very little on his flank.

Very poor half of football. Defensively, you just can’t believe what you’re watching. Acres of space down the sides, centre backs losing the ball on the wing in the opposition half, absolutely no protection.

Sons been abysmal and Johnson offers no protection when we need it. I’d hook both and bring on Werner and Maddison and try to stretch them a bit because they’re very compact and we’re struggling to get through.

Good performances? Maybe Bentancur, Sarr and Deki’s been industrious. Been very lacklustre other than them.
