*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Aston Villa FC ***

He probably heard about all the injuries and thought if I can get back to Hotspur Way by Monday and get into the good books of Frank I will have a decent chance of getting in the starting XI for the Hammers game

He's got time still to jet over and make the line-up tomorrow (3-4 hour flight?). Blimey, LWB made our bench a few weeks ago a couple of hours after he'd played for the U21s.

Biggest game of the season for me. Not going to win the league nor are we going to get relegated. Winning the Champions League equally unlikely. Winning that trophy last season was the greatest feeling as a football fan despite how poor we'd been all season and it would be great to replicate that again.

And we are Tottenham Hotspur. We have a special relationship with this cup. Or at least we did. We need some feel good factor back and trophies is the way to do that.

Not that we stand much chance of course. Winning the FA Cup involves beating harder teams than winning the Europa last season. No matter how good it felt.

Just can't see us winning it, Frank will likely over rotate, we might have a good first half at best, Emery will adjust and they will score a couple of goals (at least one from outside the box), stadium will get toxic .. seen it all before.

If we manage to draw, this game will go to extra time and then penalties, so at least we won't get a repeat fixture.

Like the rest of you, I'm pretty downbeat, but I do feel we've done OK in a lot of recent games so am still hopeful something will go our way one day.

I would rather see Dane Scarlett start up front rather than Muani. When I was a kid (many years ago) I used to absolutely love the FA cup. It was the only time there would be live games on tv and on final day the main stations used to devote nearly the whole day to coverage starting with interviews with supporters on the buses going to Wembley. Lots of ups and downs as a Spurs supporter, but moments like the commentators famous words "Is Gascoigne going to have a crack? Oh he is you know" is one that will be in my memory forever.
Oh to have a run in the cup like 1991, but I wont be betting my life on it this season lol

There use to be a magic of the cup, now I only watch games without PL teams.

The Start of the FA cup losing it`s magic was started by Manchester United when as Title Holders they opted out of the Cup to participate in the Fifa club world championship. Was it 1999/2000? Unfortunately in Football money talks

I think it was more the adding of non league winners to the European Cup.

I also used to love the FA Cup, it used to be as big as the league, and the UEFA Cup was in some ways a stronger and more interesting competition than the European Cup, but its a totally different kettle of fish now.

I have come to detest it, I see it as a waste of energy and needless injury risk from lower level players and facilities.

I'm sanguine about tomorrow, we will win and shut the moaners up for 5 minutes, or we'll lose and get some much needed rest weekends over the next couple of months, with the common sense approach of the FA getting rid of replays it's a win win situation.

I'd rather we went out of the Champions League to give us much needed rest. We have zero chance of winning it and being in the Europe seems to be far more disruptive to our season than a weekend FA Cup game.

I’m hopeful the fact that this isn’t a league game is a pressure valve release on the side, and we just play to the best of our ability. Villa are in good form, but we had good players too. Let’s take this opportunity to do something.

It’s FA Cup or nothing for us this season. I’d love us to give this a proper go.
