*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v AFC Bournemouth ***

every single one of them improved here imo
They did not become great players because they played for us. Sure they improved that was allways going to happen and you must know that.
Just think how good we could have become if we had held on to those players. We lost Berbatov as well, another world class player who I think left because of the club's handling of Martin Jol.
Anyway Coys...

Berbatov left because he got the chance to play for United, who were one of the best sides in the world and got to 2 CL finals whilst he was there.

I think we were a huge part of Bale's development, I don't think he becomes half the player without the influence AVB had on him.

Great clubs don't sell their best players but we have done it all the time! I think Berbatov may have been shocked at how we treated Martin Jol.

No, great clubs move players on at the right time. Our refusal to sell any half decent player until their career is basically over or they walk away for nothing has killed us for so long now. If there's one gripe to be had with Levy, it's the club hanging on to "assets" until they're worthless.

Absolutely Levy would like to win things. But he won’t ever do what it takes to win big prizes. That would be to spend big money on wages and bring in top players. He won’t do it because it’s a massive risk no matter who you buy and it’ll cause wage inflation that’ll bugger our wages to turnover ratio. It’s a very sensible way to run a business. It’s not the best way to achieve footballing success.

But, as I’ve said a million times…

There are only a handful of prospective owners who can take the club forward. There are an awful lot more who could take us backwards.
Yeah that's what i meant by "would like to" vs. "want". He could ratify a spending spree and it could pay off, or more probably end in tears. But it takes more than just a couple of 100M players to quickly get us to the level of Arsenal and Liverpool, because it's not just about the players. It's about the culture you build. No matter how horrible City looks now, they will not end outside top 4 and will probably be right up there with Arsenal, Liverpool and sadly Chelsea at the end of the season. If it didn't come across well, I am pro Levy. Not because I think he's perfect, but because he has proven himself (to me at least) to be an astute chairman who thinks ahead. Our finances are good. He has also said that if the right player becomes available we will spend, and I believe him on that, but who is that player? Under his reign we have become relevant again, and it has been a steady climb even if we are a bit of a shambles right now. And the non-spending window and sacking of Jol aside, I'd say that Levy has done most of the things fans have asked of him. You can't have the majority demanding that Poch or whoever should be sacked, and then blame Levy for sacking him.

Edit: I can see that would like to/wants doesn't translate well. I would very much like to be a pilot, it's a dream job, but I did't want it enough to risk spending the necessary time and not least money to maybe becoming one.

Successfull clubs do not move their best players on. Bale and Modric were not gerryatrics, niether was Babatov!
Whatever way you look at it we should have done better in the past.
I suppose you can't change fate though!

Apologies..yes we should have sold players that were holding us back...

All successful teams have had times when their best players have moved on.

It’s how you replace them that is the key part to it. And most of the time we haven’t suitably replaced the players leaving with anywhere near similar quality.

Levy / board has backed Ange more than any manager in our history

He's had a ton of money spent on good players and potential

The squad isn't perfect, but it's not as bad as being made out and recent results.

He's refusing to use what resources he has - Gray/berg/Lank all promising youngsters - apart from Gray tonight have been given zero chance.

I don't think Spence is great, but he's not been given any minutes either.

It's not entertaining , he's not getting results and there is little/no improvement.

Would you accept these results with those players being in week after week? I doubt it. 'A ton of money' eh?
Our net spend thus far in 24/25 has been 76,800,000. Our net spend in 23/24 was 25,600,000.

Your first line might actually hold the key. If it is true, then we need to adjust expectations.

-------------Lloris-------------

Walker/Trippier - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Rose

---------Demeble - Wanyama/Dier-------

---------Eriksen - Dele- Son-----

--------------Kane--------------

Ah, memories. Then we get Sissoko, Sanchez, Aurier, Foyth, Moura, N'Dombele, Lo Celso...

With some proper recruitment who knows what might have happened?

That signing pre-dates Lange so not seeing that angle tbh

Someone has decided to keep him. I hoped Djed had played his way into the manager's frame. It seems very clear that the only reason he is still here is because we wouldn't purchase another FB and someone has told Ange to work with him. I presume (at this point) that person is Lange?

Such as Manchester United selling (the then England captain) David Beckham to Real Madrid and using that transfer fee to sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Hopefully one of these youngsters we’ve signed with Kane’s sale will reach such heights in years to come and we won’t have another S Club 7 on our hands!

Nothing like a majority wanted Poch sacked, just a few knee-jerkers (and look how that’s turned out for them).

Clubs who have a no-mark like Steve Hitchen as head of recruitment, zero scouts and no data and analytics department are likely to end up with poor recruitment.

Net spend is used as a rod to beat Levy, are we meant to spend uncontrolled?

115 million on strikers alone in 3 seasons, Richi was before Ange of course

4th highest spend in past 2 years.

Takes a lot more than 2 years to build a winning squad (especially when it operates the lowest wage to turnover ratio in the league)
