OMT Spurs vs Antwerp

It is a bit puzzling why he made so many changes,agreed we played a hard game against Burnley,but he should have combined changes for the Burnley and Antwerp together ,we could have have had 3or 4 changes for the Antwerp knowing he was able to make 5 changes during the game on top,we may have gained a point then and all this drama would have been avoided.

Next week against a far weaker side would have been a better idea to make major changes. Of this result now we play Antwerp in December needing points to finish top,meaning more less full strength side(hope not) required, on top of 6 league games inc the Goons home and Liverpool away game,and the stoke game in the League Cup we have to play.

Most of us would have thought that the players put out would, on most days, be capable of a professional performance that followed the coaching they've been given over the past weeks and could see off Antwerp.
Now instead most players did not seem able to do that and came up against an opposition who, it seems, played nearly at their ceiling.
 
Fully fit and up to speed those players should perform better, it was a good team JM put out.
The reality though is GLC, Dele and Bale were not match sharp and Bergwijn has been badly off form. No matter who you're up against you cannot carry 4 players and expect to win.
I had no idea about Antwerp and was looking forward to see how they played. Then just before kick off the commentator banged on about us having never won in Belgium, how they were top of the league AND unbeaten at home for 14 months!
They turned out to be a well set up side with 11 players 'singing from the same hymn sheet' who outplayed us for good parts of the match. They should have won by 2 or 3 nil but in the end it was a bad error by Davies then ended up costing us.
Bad result but in reality not totally unexpected.

It was a bit of a gamble, but we barely scraped past Burnley with the team we played. I think it was a decent decision to focus on the league games and gamble in the EL where we had started well and have time to repair the damage.

It didn't work out in the EL, but we got the three points against Burnley. It wasn't a gamble doomed to fail just because it didn't work out.

I fully expect the team to smash them at home
We have a horrendous record in Belgium in recent seasons form the few games we have and there
I don’t think we have won one
At our place it’s a different game
Only issue now is COVID kicking things into touch somehow

This is a disappointing performance and result. Mourinho has to take large part of the blame for this defeat. You don't need rocket science to know that when you start 4 players in attack who have 1 goal between them this season, you are going to struggle to score goals. That's what happened with Bale, Vinicius, Alli and Bergwijn. It seems like Mourinho relied entirely on Bale to inspire us but he failed to do so. By the time we brought in Lamela, Moura, Son and Kane in the second half, the game was already lost. We were not helped by a stupid mistake by Davies that gifted them their goal. In fact, our defence of Sanchez and Davies were shaky the whole match that Antwerp could have scored 3 or 4 goals ! Mourinho need to learn from this match and drop error-prone players like Winks, Aurier and Sanchez and use the other players in their right positions.
