The worst case scenario I can think of is we play on and score a goal with the player getting injured when scoring it like Kane did vs Southampton
Then it gets called back to the earlier offence and you not only lose the goal, you lose the player and concede a penalty

Same here (was at the game). Thought there must have been for some off-the-ball incident or something as it was so long after the penalty shout.
 
Friend was probably waiting for the ball to go out but eventually lost his nerve and instructed Dean to halt play.
 
They haven't thought these things through properly. If the on-field ref has given a decision, then there ought to be a window of just a few seconds for VAR to indicate they want to review for a possible "clear and obvious" error. They then communicate that to the ref, who blows his whistle and stops play, then they carry out the check. You can't have a situation where goals are being scored at the other end that have to be chalked off or other potentially irreversible game-changing events occur. Suppose a player is sent off for serious foul play that ends someone's season or career in the meantime. You can't wave a wand and have that unhappen.

What about 4 minutes left in the game...
The first stoppage IS the final whistle and then the ref says but I've got to award that penalty from 4 minutes ago.

I think it had gone back to Ederson and Dean blew holding is hands up to say wait.

I knew that moment was coming as from the South stand I definitely thought Auriers tackle was iffy. Dean must of been thinking in his own head (and must of been getting word in his ear) that FFS how long am I gonna let this continue before butting in.

I mean City are capable of keeping the ball in play for 10 mins let alone 4.

That would be absolute madness.

I'm not a fan of VAR, I can accept the refereeing errors but this situation is nonesense because there is still subjectivity to the decisions being made.

Surely they need to change the 'butting in' rule:D

As soon as the VAR ref says 'need to review that'... If the ball doesn't go dead, then as soon as the ball is next recycled out of the penalty area or into midfield he should blow to stop the game.
 
All in all a performance that was about what I expected at this stage.
Emirates Marketing Project are always going to create chances, and the chances they got against us are standard stuff in most of their games, so not that worried about it.
The main issue we had attacking was due to low precision when we were trying to counter. Some really sloppy passes, but I also think this has to do with the fact that there are new players trying to gel.
I get that City could have scored so and so many goals if they were effective, but if we had been clinical on our counters they would have been punished much harder than we did.

Looking forward to the Chelsea game.

VAR is not what is failing. It's the refs in the VAR booth that are failing. Two completely different things.

Hitting the target is irrelevant. You may have 10 close-range shots that hit the woodwork. That would count as no shots on target.

Conversely you could have 10 shots from 35 yards that all land in the keeper's lap. That's 10 shots on target.

Which of the two represents a more dominant performance, though?

They outplayed us, whichever way we want to dress it, and we were lucky to get the result we did. I'll take it, but I won't argue that it was deserved in any way.

Don't think so. I think he took the entire two minutes to decide it was a penalty. My view is that if it took that long, then it certainly can't be a "clear and obvious mistake". Consequently it should never have been overturned.

Why he didn't suggest Dean watch the pitch side monitor to consider whether Sterling should have been sent off for the foul on Deli is another massive misjudgement.
