Oliver Skipp

Not a chance. Having him in the squad will enable us to rest PEH, or partner PEH in tougher game. We also need more HG players so him and Sessegnon are very hlpeful in that regard too

It's not that straightforward

- How many games will he get for us next season (at 21)?
- Vs. him playing 40+ games at PL level +cups

Could be a huge part in if he develops well or not (I'd argue Grealish would not be the player he is if he left when we were trying to buy him, that additional season where he was their main guy made the difference in his development)

Said it before, food for thought -> Skipp will play more games/minutes this season at 20, than Winks has ever played in a single season at 25 ..

They'd absolutely bite Levy's arms off if there was any chance of Skippy playing in yellow and green next season, and rightly so. He's been mustard for them!

It sounds like Skipp is a sensible lad though, and/or has good people around him. Taking the time to assess options and ending up going to an unfashionable club like Norwich shows maturity and self-awareness. If he desperately wants to play every game as Norwich attempt to stay in the Prem, I think the club should let him do so -- for the long term good. Our worst case is if Levy forces Skipp back into our 1st team squad and Mourinho doesn't play him. Then off he goes to Germany or wherever.

Unfortunately I don't think half-season loans between Prem clubs are allowed, or that might be a suitable compromise. It should ultimately be up to Skipp and there needs to be an open discussion.

I know, I understand that argument! I just think that he will get enough games for us; with Europe and cups we'll likely play 50-60 games, and we've been lucky with PEH staying fit this year.

It's a close argument - do we continue with SIssoko for another year, or bring back Skipp in the summer? All those who vote for the former should be blocked from moaning about Sissoko or lack of depth in CM if we do loan Skipp out again

use another Skipp loan as leverage to sign Aarons - loan him back for the season as part of the deal as well and then Aurier & Doherty can have another season to fight it out.

Skipp gets a year developing in the Prem week in week out, Aarons gets a second PL season under his belt and a 4th consecutive season as a starter. Norwich can sign Winks and whoever loses out between Aurier v Doherty to replace the outgoing pair the following summer.

What do you think our net spend will likely be this summer? If we spend £40m on a CB (and only sign 1 CB) and say £15m on a keeper, I'm not sure we'll have much cash for other positions. I don't see where we're generating huge cash this summer from outgoings...and frankly, given our CB problems and zero credible GK back-ups, I'd be happy if we spend everything we have in those positions

I'd be happier to take the risk that we cant get Aarons (or alternative) in future, rather than risk going into next season without properly solving our CB issues

CB signing is obviously the priority - anything else is dependent on that signing being made.

no idea what to expect wrt to net spend tbh, wait and see i suppose but if we're in trouble then there are a lot of other clubs in the same boat and transfer activity and prices will reflect that

Agree that prices should all contract, but my main concern about outgoings would be wages (and also Levy's expectations on prices). Would many of our non-first 11 players (the likes of Sissoko, Lamela, Moura, Winks, Davies, Sanchez etc) be able to get similar wages at other club, and therefore would they agree to go?

wages are a concern wrt getting players off the books i agree.

anyone know how reliable Sportekz are, seen them referenced a few times - interesting figures on there

If we're in the EL that should be at least 7-8 games with the EL group stages and LC games for the first half of the season for him to bed back in and show what he can do.

If we're in the CL it's a different level. Then I think we need Mourinho to think that he's ready for PL/CL starts or he could struggle for games and his development could suffer. It would also make it difficult in terms of having an option for PEH.

A lot of it just comes down to money though. How much will it cost to get the required singnings in for other areas. Can we afford to bring in a real option for Hojbjerg in the summer or is Skipp in with one out more or less the only way to make other signings possible.

My guess is that we won't see an early decision with him going out on loan. See how the transfer window develops, see how he does in preseason and training.

I'm pretty sure from Norwich's pov they'd 100% want him back

Whether he comes back to us will depend on 1. Whom our manager is? 2. Our transfer budget and primary targets 3. Who we offload (winks, sissoko etc).

There genuinely needs to be the potential for 30 appearences with maybe 15/18 as a starter. He is no different from signing a standout player from the championship for £25m. He needs that pathway into the team, and that should be 1st back up to PEH and possibly to even play alongside him. If for any reason thats not the case (fail to offload players etc), there is little point him being here considering the sucess he's had at Norwich.

If we did send him back to Norwich we could always puts a clause in that we can recall him in January.

Mourinho has spoken so highly about him I’m sure he’d be using him next season. He is literally in the team every week for Norwich, much like Hojberg:D I’m sure Jose would have loved to have been able to rotate Skipp into the side many times this season to rest Hojberg, but the experience he is getting of a full football season is much better for his development. I’d be pretty surprised if he is loaned out for a second season no matter how keen Norwich are on him....

They have already asked

I think it's really just a balance with his development, easy temptation to use him, but to your point, if we can't give him 30 appearances, it may be better for both of us to give him another year (only if its them and in the PL)
