Funnily enough I'm doing my first run through as I clocked it was on the iPlayer. I'd seen "in the loop" and the odd clip of Tucker going ape brick and the full show doesn't disappoint. It's brilliant and the notion of politicians winging it has somehow stayed relevant, who'd have thunk it? The writing is just wonderful.

I'm also rewatching the beeb's War and Peace, Paul Dano is excellent in it as he has been in just about everything and the arc of count bazookov (spelling) is excellent to watch. It's also interesting to see Ade Edmondson in something resembling a serious role rather than dingdong / fart jokes!

I did enjoy BBC's great expectations as well that was my last watch, but I didn't know the source material particularly well and I'm not triggered by placing ethnic minorities in works of fiction that are there to be reinterpreted as any director sees fit. If it's a historical documentary style program I'd get the ire but that are like loads of worse things going on to be annoyed about..

The Thick of It is amazing. Tucker has to be one of the great characters on TV, the story is brilliantly funny and sad

Im currently watching the Newsroom on Sky Atlantic and am really enjoying it, the story lone of them covering real US events is clever and gives it a good structure. Its not the greatest TV but its very watchable IMO Jeff Daniels is brilliant in it

The newsroom is great
Very relevant too
Not sure Aaron sorkin pulled it

This has probably already been discussed, but does it irritate anyone else when Netflix ruin a TV in the thumbnail? For example, you watch an episode episode of a show and someone maybe dies, but the thumbnail for the next episode/season shows said character clearly fine and alive. Must be a way to turn off the thumbnails?

Alastair Campbell has a very amusing anecdote about a time when he and Peter Capaldi were asked to have a Malcolm Tucker style swear off at a charity event.

I won't spoil the whole thing but Peter Capaldi is not a naturally sweary person, so Alastair Campbell found himself spending 10 minutes screaming and shouting all kinds of abuse at a very lovely actor. Only to discover it was being streamed to a room full of kids.

I saw an interview with Campbell where he said he resented the idea it was built on his profile which probably means its close to him.

Gen V offshot of The Boys is a pretty good watch

I've smashed the first three episodes and it's actually quite nice to have the rest coming out weekly - it feels old school having something to look forward to each week.

Whilst The Boys does brilliantly on addressing various social issues, I do however feel it's a seems a bit forced having one super power to do with self harm, another effectively an eating disorder and the non binary thing. Especially as in the last two cases there's the classic "parents don't understand or may have actively made something worse with horrific ignorance and pushiness" trope much like with Starlight and her Mum.

At the risk of contracting myself it's excellent that programs are addressing these things but maybe they're trying too much? I don't know.

For those that haven't watched the boys I'll spoiler the next bit
Especially given that it turns out the compound V was administered by parental choice it definitely gives off the vibe that some of the writers have issues with parents...The metal shifter guy's Dad is awful too, there's almost no positive relationships..

Still great fun and as expected, surprising levels of violence and depravity

Enjoyed boiling point, not sure if they couldn't afford Graham or he was not as much part of the story curve but he was class when he popped up

Just started watching it. Gawd knows how I missed it first time round (I'll check the dates and see where I was in my life:)).

I'm 3 episodes in and it is very good. I suppose if you know the inner workings of the political sphere it's not hard to imagine it as a comedy program. Even moreso in recent years.

I'm guessing this was at the beginning of the seasick wobbly camera work era?
