Chris Carter, who created the original Fox series and directed 2008’s “X-Files: I Want To Believe” movie, is masterminding Fox’s new six-hour “X-Files” miniseries, which will reunite stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

The number of episodes is a bit of a surprise, since last year’s “24” revival got 12 hours.

For those living under a rock since 1993, Duchovny and Anderson play FBI agents who investigate the uncanny.

Production is expected to get underway this summer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“THE X-FILES” RETURNS TO FOX

Emmy Award-winning Pop Culture Phenomenon From Chris Carter Is Back as Six-Episode Event Series

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to Reprise Their Roles as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully

Thirteen years after the original series run, FOX has ordered the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES, a thrilling, six-episode event series which will be helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

The announcement was made today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group and Chris Carter, creator and executive producer of THE X-FILES. Production on THE X-FILES event series is set to begin in summer 2015. Further details remain under wraps and will be announced at a later date.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of THE X-FILES – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” remarked Newman and Walden. “THE X-FILES was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as THE X-FILES, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, THE X-FILES is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter. -FOX-

Hist first show was a HUGE hit according to all reports.

He is a "novelty" act over there and the yanks do love a Brit. His success cant be measured on one opening show when he was helped by the appearences of Hollywood A Listers. The 5 nights a week show will be a slog and it will be interesting to see how he fares on a show booked with z list americans which he has never heard off.

His smarmy face is annoying as hell.

Nurse....from our very own yiddo,Paul Whitehouse,is quite brilliant.

The amount of characters he has invented over the years is quite extraordinary.Love to see him have a documentary with where he gets them from it must be touching a hundred now, even his adverts are quite funny too.

One of the most underated comedy actors of the present time.

Jinx: the life and death of Robert Durst is good. I've only watched 1 episode so far. It's a documentary series about some killings around 2001, and is being shown on sky Atlantic soon.

My friend who told me about it advised strongly to not google the show as there are spoilers everywhere

eztv is back. Thank fudge. Only way I'm able to keep up. Archer has a full season out, Helix is back and 12 Monkeys has just started.

Re watching Frasier in chronological order for the millionth time. Know every word of every episode off by heart but still never tire of it.

Cheers never grabbed me the same way. Never watched that in the 80's but binge viewed the whole lot last year and even though its very good, It doesnt beg repeat viewing for me.

Frasier is the fudging one. I found out the other day that Lisa Kudrow was originally cast to play Roz but she didn't really have enough of the aggression so Peri Gilpin took over

How has he landed a job that high profile?! I find him unfunny, think he tries too hard to please & that his career should have been limited to Gavin & Stacey, and even there I think that that show was massively overrated, I never found it funny.
Yes he's unfunny. What was worse than Gavin & Stacey being massively overrated, was on the same night right after it was Pulling, which was really funny and massively underrated.

I love Frasier. I still have episodes saved on my Sky box that were recorded in 2011 lol. So cleverly written.

1st 4 episodes of Season 5 of GOT have been leaked online

Refuse to watch them, I don't want to be left with another month until a new episode.

Binged on Netflix's Daredevil over weekend. Really really impressive and Vincent D'Onofrio was such a presence in the show.

Going to try to save them up this time. Binge watching is the best way to really get into a show.

Heads up people... Drum roll please...
