**Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

How could you possibly know that now?

To me it's obvious. I am confident that in years to come I will be proved right. I do think AVB is a decent coach though and I can see him winning something at Spurs, but I don't think AVB is a title winning quality coach for a major league. But if he wins the Real Madrid coach lotto at some point then maybe Spain?

@Jurgen: Muller is definitely a good choice. He's a 'Raumdeuter' now, as the German media refer to him, which stands for 'space investigator'. He finds spaces no one else on the pitch can find, which is an incredibly rare talent for a player to have.

Experience is over rated when you are talking about cream. The reason people are the cream isn't because of experience believe me!

Wenger was managing for twelve years before he joined Arsenal. You don't think that helped him?

AVB has been managing for three. (Well three and a half)

Well you must win a lot gambling then with your foresight. I think it is a ridiculous notion to be able to judge just how good AVB will be when he is in his mid-30s. Had Arsene won a European trophy at that age?

You are completely ignoring that people evolve. He will learn. His management style will differ. He will make mistakes and learn from them. I bet you successfully predicted Ferguson becoming the most successful manager after his initial few years at United too.

Hey Wenger was a great manager before Arsenal for sure! I followed his Monaco team very closely when Hoddle went there. I managed to get over there and see them play quite a few times!

And AVB was a great manager before he came to us. Unbeaten at Porto and winning the Europa league?

Or are we just going to ignore his good achievements because you feel like it?

I do alright at gambling actually!

Fergie was a great manager at Aberdeen and I loved the way they played football. Aberdeen bring back happy memories for me because I won some good coin when they beat Real Madrid, even though I felt a bit sad for Metgod!

I am not a massive fan of the Portuguese league. Too one sided. Porto win almost all the time, it's boring.

As opposed to the french league in which Wenger proved himself?

May i ask your nationality and location?

Even if it's a poor league, for a new manager to go a season unbeaten is impressive. Are you saying you don't rate the Europa either? The latter teams in it are usually very good.

But when Fergie was with Aberdeen could you instantly tell that he would go on to be more successful than Bob Paisley or Bill Shankly? This is what you are basically predicting with AVB by already saying he won't be as good as Wenger. He may well not be, but you are massively underestimating the human ability of learning from our failures.

What was wrong with the French league when Wenger was there? It was quite a competitive league until Marseille started to dominate and we all know now that they dominated through corruption. You get a lot of flash in the pan coaches, do well at one club or for a couple of years and then nothing. But Wenger did well at Monaco for a few years and I hated it when he joined Arsenal because it meant I had to start disliking a man I admired for so long!

I'm Dutch, and I don't have one specific location really. But Amsterdam is what I regard as home and I get back there when I can!

I hope so, we have the better players so we should do for sure. It's still game on!

we may have better players on paper (to be honest i think even that is debatable - attacking wise they are superior) but they have a more settled and balanced team, imv - which counts for a lot.

i think last season, as a team, we were better than them as we had Modric, Rafa, a happy and in form Adebayor, Bale & Lennon - this season although we have added some quality we have also lost some important cogs and changed manager so there is some disruption and we are no longer the balanced settled team we were. potentially though i feel we are building a side which will be better (overall over the course of a season) than what we had last year - i just hope that Arsenal and Wenger do not improve at the same rate as us (or higher)

i certainly had us down to finish below Arsenal this season, last summer

Fair enough. He's got the backing of Sir Bobby Robson and The Special One.

I think they know more about managing then you do or i do, so i'll stick to my guns on this one.

Unbeaten though and smashing records?

Hey, if he does elsewhere then I will concede I could be wrong. But Porto have won so many titles recently it is hard to get too excited. They've won 8 of the last 10 titles. If he had had the same kind of success with Celtic I would be equally unimpressed.

But it's what he is doing with us that really counts and I can't say we have been brilliant this season but we have done well and he certainly deserves time.

Me too. I didn't think we would be competing for the top 4 having lost Modric, Rafa, King, Parker/Sandro (First half and second half of season), Kaboul, Adebayor (Form). That's basically the spine of our side. We've done very well.
