I don't think so. I think we are better than last year too. Better keeper, better defence, stronger central midfield and Bale has been on fire and a better forward than what we had last year. But if they had Van Persie then sure they may be out of sight, because he is the best player in the Premiership right now.
But for me Wenger is better than Redknapp and better than AVB and that is also a main reason as to why we will struggle to beat them in the league. Hopefully he will leave Arsenal soon and their time of domination over us will come to an end!
I think we are a weaker team overall, a better goalkeeper, and a more reliable centre back in Jan but someone that is still prone to errors than King would not have made in the first half of the season last year. But then his form dipped so Jan overall is better. Plus Kaboul has been out, he may well have played over Gallas, Dawson and Caulker more often. Young players will likely have a difficult second season after a breakthrough first and this has happened with Walker, so overall we may have improved one position in defence and have a better goalkeeper but it's not that much better.
In midfield, Dembele isn't to Modric's level yet. Lennon has been better as has Bale, although he's been moved upfront and Sig, while I really rate him, isn't as good as Bale on the left, but then very few people are.
So because Bale has been moved upfront, we can say we are stronger there but Ade has been nowhere near as good, Defoe was badly out of form after a good start and Bale only started playing there in the last couple of months so over the season we have been weaker overall upfront, and it's pretty outstanding that we've managed to get where we are having to rely on Defoe as a lone striker for large parts of the season, as I don't think Harry would have managed that. In behind, Dempsey, while a decent option has been dissapearing in a lot of games and is not on VDV's level.
So overall, considering King was playing regularly for the first half of last season and playing well, while JV is more reliable as regards to injuries, we have only marginally improved that position, while Walker has been weaker and Benny hasn't been as good, probably because he isn't suited to AVB's style of play. We've had to move JV to left back and play Caulker more often so we've only really improved the goalkeeper there to a significant standard, while losing out on the other positions. In midfield, it's essentially a swap of Dembele for Modric who isn't on the level Modric was, and if we say Bale and Lennon have been better, Bale's gains in the forward position have been marginal because it hasn't been all season, and we've had to play Dempsey and Sig, who aren't as good as Bale on the left or Rafa in behind. Ade is weaker, although Defoe has improved his all round game.
We aren't a better team than last year, and Arsenal have good depth now even though they lost RVP. Their bench last night was pretty decent unfortunately.
