I was part of a group of friends that started a festival (started out as a birthday party), that ended up having 20k+ attendance. In 2008 we had Lauryn Hill as headliner, along with Mötorhead. Lauryn Hills band was absolutely fantastic! 14 man band! One of the best bands I've ever experienced live.
Mötorhead made me deaf for a week. My company's pa, which was large enough to cater for about 5-8000 people, was in its entirety used as SIDEFILLS on stage for Mötorhead!

Lem's mid-range hearing was notoriously shot for some time. The other two would keep trying to get the monitors turned down, but Lem wouldn't have any of it. Wonderful. As Motörhead should always have been...while I'm here, I will share a secret from around 15 years ago. The old Manchester Apollo backstage door was near the "elbow" corner of a street. Just along from it was a pub. Whenever MD would start his solo, Phil would quickly nip out to the pub for a pint!!!!!!

BTW, saw McCartney recently and it was a superb show, the best I've seen him do! Looks happy, playing better than for sometime and the evening was tremendous. What a raconteur too!

Was that the LA show where Ringo joined him for a couple of songs?

Brilliant, reminds of a time back in the 70's ( old fart i know:(). Kiss were doing their first trip to England and were booked to appear at the Free Trade Hall ( big venue back in the day). I knew a guy who was promoting their record label and we had to do few promotions ( dressed as Kiss):::: One of the guys who was helping was the one and only DJ Andy Peebles ( before he became a jock on national radio).

At the time he was DJ'ing at my mates club and also working on local radio, we all got front row tickets for the show and after party. Just behind the hall was a Boddingtons pub ( brilliant beer in those days), well Kiss were brick and for the first ( and last time) after about 20 mins we all decided to leave and go to the Pub.

What made be really laugh though was the next morning Pebbles was doing his show on the local radio saying that Kiss were brilliant and it was one of the best shows he had been to. He was in the pub with us for most of their show. :)

Great days.

Its my birthday in a couple of weeks and my daughter has just got me tickets to John Mayall in November. One of my favourite artists. :)

Dost (dids't) thou dig Steely Dan?

You may enjoy this band. Monkey House. Toronto based, but often operating as session musicians in New York. Superb musicianship and lush production. Totally tight arrangements. Headphones recommended.

This past week, I have mostly been listening to a lot of Napalm Death!
Barney (singer) is a lovely chap and committed good causes man, as is Shane (bassist). Besides being an incredible force of nature (and John Peel favourite) in times of pain and strife they are a fudging get vent! Oh, and when they hit a groove-riff, it makes most metal seem like cheap arrhythmic disco!
