Saw Kneecap tonight after a recommendation on here - kind of a watered down Human Traffic, in my opinion, but a good watch none the less! The songs were really good, so I kept thinking "they can't have made these tracks just for the film?" - so only after the movie I learned that they are indeed a real band/group! Nice.

I watched the last showgirl and have to say, I get they want to paint Pam A as a renaissance woman but its honestly one of the worst acting performances I have seen, its just over the top but not in flamboyance, its over the top because she feels like thats how it needs to be acted but its so bad. Its a role that could have been Erin Brockovichesq but it misses badly.

In no order (other than The Brutalist as my favourite of 2024)

The Brutalist, The Substance, Blitz, Hard Truths, Kneecap, Nosferatu

I sww Anora and was overwhelmingly underwhelmed. I need to see several more, and Longlegs is in that list.

I’m looking forward to watching Hard Truths and The Brutalist when they come to UK cinemas this month, for the latter I’m glad that my local has recliners nowadays as even with an intermission that 215 minute runtime is bit much to stay seated non-stop!

Where do you guys typically watch movies and series? I've got HBO, Netflix and some Norwegian stuff, but it's so much brick on there. I've been trawling through this thread, because I know you guys are adults and don't like flimflam - and I can find literally none of these movies on there. It's all either "Fanny killed her grandpa with a sock, see what happened over 37 episodes!!", "The life of Cathrine Pomswickle took a dramatic turn when her past came back to haunt her!!!" never heard of that before. Not to mention "Queesfizzers 8: The Return of Goggletrumper!" - I AM NOT 12 YEARS OLD FFS! I rage quit Netflix and a few Norwegian things last night trying to find something decent to watch.

I’ve got a Limitless membership for Odeon cinemas which means I don’t have to pay for tickets, aside from a £5 uplift for IMAX features. For the movies I miss at multiplex I’ve got Prime which gets most of the best releases. Netflix’s selection of films over here is dubious and their own productions are mediocre at best.

I am a huge Mike Leigh fan, and you'll find (IMO) Hard Truths to be very similar to his earlier work. It is somewhat of a palatte cleanser to see a production so spartan. Baptiste is outstanding, the story incredibly important. Along with Loach, he tells the stories which for me become a publiv service. Really interested to hear what you think of both this and The Brutalist; that intermission (13 mins long BTW) is interesting. You need it but it take a few mins to click back in.

Top man. Those are great plans. I had one out here for Alamo Drafthouse (a really great string of cinemas). I might renew, as I let it go during covid.
