What is it that makes him a better option than some of the names we've been linked to like LvG?
I think almost everyone would take LvG.
Problem is, when you say names "like" LvG there actually isn't anybody else "like" LvG. He is unique. So the question then is, who do we go to as second choice if we don't get LvG?
Oddschecker has the next candidates:
- Pocettinho
- Rafa
- Jurgen
- Laudrup
- Ancellotti
- de Boer
- Spalletti
- Mancini
- Hoddle
- Capello
> Laudrup, Hoddle, Capello and Mancini would all be hideous, hideous appointments and I'm certain they wouldn't even seriously cross Levy's mind.
> Jurgen is 100% not leaving the US for the madness of Spurs.
> Spaletti has just taken a new job and would be a pretty eccentric pick anyway.
> Pocettinho could be Special, or he could be AVB mark II. I just don't think his profile is a risk Levy would be willing to take again.
> I very seriously doubt de Boer would leave Ajax for 6th place/no CL Spurs when Barca would probably offer him their job, as would PSG probably, or Milan or Arsenal (he'd be a great fit for Arsenal.) Any CL team/Top 3-4 team in Europe looking for a manager would probably be happy to appoint him. I just don't see de Boer as a serious contender for Spurs at all this summer.
> Rafa would divide opinion big time. Yes, he might work, or he might not. There isn't a compelling no-brainer reason why you'd break your ass to get him. This also assumes he'd leave Napoli after 1 season, or that they'd sack him in the next 4 weeks. I quite like Rafa, but as Spurs manager? It just doesn't feel right.
> That leaves Ancellotti and LvG. I'd take either of them, but they are two of the biggest managers in world football, and of course Ancellotti might stay at RM, which would make Spurs a rather weird choice for either of them.
I think we need to be thinking about the choice we have to make if it's not LvG or Ancellotti because both of them are still odds-on not to happen.
So who is that name from the list? I would not be at all surprised if at this point Levy is thinking Sherwood.
