The scariest thing the article is that they reckon Levy rates Sherwood and reckons he can still come good, whilst also stating that Levy has distanced himself from LVG

I really wanted Ancelotti to replace Redknapp in summer 2011, but I don't think he's the right man now.

He's a very good manager, but like Redknapp he is resource hungry as he specialises in eeking a few extra miles out of (big wage) veterans.

We need a coach who can work within our constraints while we build the stadium over the next 3-4 years. For that we need someone who can work to develop raw talent. It's why the two Dutch managers are the outstanding candidates, because we need to follow the Ajax model.

I really rate Poch but I'm not sure he'd do well under Levy. He's a system manager and needs certain types to make it work best, where as Levy will sign good deals that often won't fit with that vision.

If we backed Poch, gave him a budget and told him he had the freedom to mould a team, he'd do pretty well but I don't think we would.

well that has and will continue to make life difficult for whoever Levy puts in charge of the team........every manager needs to work with players that fit into their tactical plans. Surely?

Any half decent one is able to make adjustments to suit the players available to them. LVG has played different systems and if necessary moved players into different positions. You'll never have sustainable success as a club if every new manager has to rebuild the squad in his image. He's supposed to be a coach first and foremost. The makeup of the squad will change over time, but not every player can be hand picked.

I prefer Van Gaal (just) over Ancelotti however I'd take either of them over Sherwood in a heart-beat. Both LVG and CA are also better managers than we've had for years/decades so either would be great appointments!

I swear it's like people ignore the obvious again and again and again. Van gaal will fail miserably here simply because we do not have a chairman that is patient enough to give time for van gaal to implement his system...which sounds like it will take a while. Levy isn't leaving so we need a manager thats key strengths suit levy's philosophy....not the other way around (plus van gaal will almost certainly alienate players with his egotistical attitude).

Agree with this.

The job of a modern coach is to forge together the components they are given into a cohesive unit. They aren't dictators any more. Like any organisation of the scale of football clubs, they are now relatively small cogs in a much bigger structure.

The idea is for the board and player recruitment specialists to hire a manager who fits their vision, not to be dictated to be a relatively minor employee who won't usually be around longer than 2-3 years.

not every player but sometimes certain player types are essential to how a coach wants his team to operate.....like if LVG wants a deep lying playmaker for example but Levy instead signs a midfield runner who scores goals, just because the second variant was a cracking deal.Thats just wrong.....all managers wants players, even LVG. when he went to Barca the first and successful time, he signed Andersen, Reizeger, Kluivert, Cocu, Frank and Ronald de Boer. He wanted them, he got them

I don't think LVG will take that long to implement his system, because AVB has done most of the hard work for him. We've now got a young, versatile, technical and submissive squad, which is exactly what LVG likes.

Repairing the psychological damage of the past few months will be the main task. After that add in a bit of defensive organisation and some synchronised movement in the final third, and we're back as contenders.

LVG doesn't like superstars, but we've not really got any of them left. I don't think he'll have patience with Ade and BAE, but that's the only problems I can foresee.

LVG isn't a manager you need patience with, because he delivers silverware quickly, and that makes everyone shut up.

You mean sack Martin Jol and appoint a 44 year old from within? Crazy talk!

Your point about Ancelotti is a good one though - I wouldn't mind him but you may well be right that he's the wrong fit.

oh and LVG at Bayern.....he spent 52 mill on Robben and Gomez, 17 mill on Tymishok and Pranjic, all in his first season. I think its very naive to think he will come in at Spurs and make do with what he has got. The man has his own ideas and will want certain players to carry out his vision.

Bayern spent that much, not necessarily LVG. They are like the German Real Madrid, they always sign at least a couple of super expensive players every season. Often weakening their rivals in the process.

None of Walker, Rose, Dawson, Sandro, Paulinho, Chadli or Towsend strike me as technical. Can't see any of them having a role in a technical squad.

LVG, Ancelotti, FSW, anybody at this stage ..

I think Levy will give a big name manager a budget walking in, i.e. $X +whatever from player sales, I also think AVB would have got more time if he wanted to, if he hadn't created issues of his own doing.

I'm not looking for a 10 year manager, 3-4 years of good results, create a system/style, hopefully a cup and a CL run somewhere in there will do very nicely

I'd agree with you on Dawson, Rose, Walker and Sandro, but I think Chadli, Paulinho and Townsend all have technical ability. They are let down by other things and would likely work in a system if they and their team mates knew what they were doing.
