Levy to move for Tuchel
Daniel Levy has switched his sights to Mainz 05 coach Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel, 40, became the Spurs supremo's number one choice last night after Spurs officials learnt from Louis van Gaal's advisors that the Dutchman has 'agreed in principle' to take over the Old Trafford hot seat following the World Cup.
Inside sources at White Hart Lane say that senior club officials have been attending Bundesliga fixtures to keep tabs on Tuchel's progress. Having picked up the mantle from the much heralded Juergen Klopp, Tuchel has turned unfancied Mainz into Bundesliga mainstays and has already attracted attention from German giants Schalke 04 and Hamburg.
An insider explained: "Levy and Baldini think Thomas Tuchel could be the ideal fit for Spurs. Having already brought players through from the youth team at Mainz they think he could maximise the exciting generation of talent coming through the ranks at Spurs and get the most out of the world class training facilities."
Tuchel, whose contract with Mainz expires in the Summer, has given his advisors the green light to begin negotiations with Levy as he feels he is ready for a bigger stage at this point in his career.
