Next Manager?

Or, maybe Poch just isnt that unhappy?

I think the mistake you and many have been making is listening to the 'noise'. The only real reliable ones are The Athletic who broke the story, and went on to say that the chances of Poch moving was low. But of course that didnt stop plenty of people getting all excitable, with plenty of 'sources' and usual ITK flimflam to follow. Yet all the noise in France was that Poch wasnt going anywhere aswell. Levy obviously asked the question, but there was never any indication it went much beyond that if you filter out the obvious clickbait.....

I don't know how to use the like button IMO.

If Conte fails to turn things around his rep would still get him a decent job and it would be seen as our infrastructure was the barrier to his success.
If Poch fails to turn things around he’d struggle to get a big job after as it would make it seem that his relative success with us was based on inheriting a group of players perfect for his system.
If you love Poch and want him back above all other options, it’s still best for him to wait for us to either be on a more stable footing or at such a low ebb that the bar and patience for him will be even easier for him to be succesful. He can also demonstrate he is either independent of or has learned from the issues that led to the decline in results that got him sacked. Also leaving PSG in less than a season without delivering the league hasn’t enhanced his rep in any way since leaving, so best he puts that right first.

Of course the lack of signings contributed to this but he also oversaw some expensive misfits that we are still left with.

Conte is not Jose and that's a lazy comparison

Why is one of the better managers in world football not a good fit?

Too defensive a setup and far too volatile a character.

We don't have the players for his system. It won't therefore be successful. Our fanbase are completely out of patience with negative football, so the stadium will immediately become a big barrier. Him and Levy will also fall out instantly

It will just end in tears very quickly.

I agree with the last line
I don’t agree that he is negative
His side that won the league did so beating the best Spurs side we have had in a loooong time
They scored 1 less goal than us too so attack wise were very comparable

Love how definite you are in your statements, have you ever been wrong?

He's not too defensive, his teams just actually know how to defend - theres a difference. If he was so defensive funny how his Inter team scored one goal less than top scorers Atalanta, just like when he won the league with Chelsea we were the top scorers that season and Chelsea scored 1 less goal.....

We scored loads of goals last season. It's not a measure of attractive or attacking football. Spurs just need to be a passing side, not a counter-attacking one. That is our DNA.

Guess we need to replace some players then?

Well, I was all for bringing Poch back. Not possible just now. Conte is clearly the next best available. Unlike Mourinho, he's still in his prime and a student of the game. I'm good with hiring him. Clearly knows how to get his team scoring goals but also knows how to set up to defend, something that's a little more urgent with Spurs currently.

But the fit isn't there. If Poch is impossible you go for ten Hag or Lopetegui, because they do the same thing (passing, high press, youth development). Keeping swerving drastically between the extremes of passing to counter-attacking styles/players is just a recipe for long-term decline.

Bring in either ETH or Lopetegui and you're immediately signalling re-build, as opposed to the re-load Conte would offer. The two former managers will need time to adapt to the PL. Conte is current and far likelier to attract the talent we need to compete for the top four next season. And ETH isn't coming to us. His boss, Marc Overmars, is keeping him warm for Arsenal.

It must be boring to know everything before the first ball has been kicked. I take it you didn't agree with BrainofLevy"s post the other day, who didn't want Pochettino's critics to have a go at him before he had a chance to rebuild the team?

I don't agree with that. Continuity Poch coaches will be able to use the squad he built (ballplaying attackers and high-line defenders). Conte though would have to completely reverse the squad and bring in running attackers and low-block defenders.

If you vote Tory, you can't moan that there are starving kids. If you employ a counter-attacking coach, you can't moan at the brick football. And we know from Graham and Mourinho how well that goes down with our fans.

fudge me, after having read more about Conte I'm all aboard the Conte train. Sure, he'll be gone in a couple of years, but so would anyone else anyway. Fifa micro managing tactics, here we go!

What are your thoughts on Chris Wilder?

I don’t think this is strictly true. David Luiz is not a Jose defender, but was successful under Conte.

We will definitely need some new players, but I think our squad isn’t a million miles away from suiting a wing back system. And much of Conte’s system relies on playing it out from the back - its rehearsed patterns but it still looks good. I think we’ll be ok after Conte goes.

A very good coach. Blitzed League 1 and the Championship as great passing side, then thrived in the EPL by adding a bit of caution to that (in contrast to Norwich). Tactically innovative and a good motivator - I'd rate him above say Nuno Espirito Santo.
