New takeover rumours

The problem will be the motivation for Levy to stay.
If the club are sold for 450m then ENIC's 85% of spurs will get ENIC 382.5m.
Levy owns 29% of ENIC and will get 111m from the sale.

Why would a guy with that type of money wanna work for AEG?

It's a moot point now that AEG have denied the takeover claims but it isn't uncommon for the buyers of a company to make it a condition of sale that the outgoing owner / chairman stays in his post for a number of years in order to ensure continuity and a smooth transition.

In a well run, smaller company, especially, much of the value of that company resides in the quality of the management and staff.

No probs with this at all, as long as no lottery ticket is won I dont see any reason not to welcome a takeover, Lewis is not going to last much longer (age wise)

AEG not planning Spurs bid
Group dismisses reports of a ?ú450m White Hart Lane takeover

The Anschutz Entertainment Group has dismissed reports that it is in talks regarding a ?ú450million takeover of Tottenham Hotspur.

Speculation had claimed that AEG owner Philip Anschutz has recently been holding discussions with his Spurs counterpart Joe Lewis regarding a possible takeover.

AEG had been involved in Spurs' previous failed attempts to move into London's Olympic Stadium and that prompted the rumours concerning a possible buy-out.

The company, who also organise large music and entertainment events across the world, have a strong relationship with Tottenham but deny they are interested in taking over the club.

Timothy J Leiweke, president and chief executive of AEG, said in a statement: "The stories that AEG is interested in or has been negotiating for the purchase of Tottenham are untrue.

"We currently enjoy a very good business and personal relationship with Tottenham and have been involved with a number of transactions over the years. However, at no time have we had a desire to purchase that club.

"We will continue to have a great relationship with (Tottenham chairman) Daniel (Levy) and Tottenham moving forward."

AEG already owns two Major League Soccer clubs - Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo - in addition to hockey and other sporting clubs across the world.

Agree with billyiddo. We are on the cusp of something here, and while I would welcome investment if it arose, keeping Levy would be essential imo. But I would not be keen on AEG (so pleased to see their statement) because they are souless, and would simply see us as just another addition to a large portfolio of interests.

In terms of a windfall, there isn't much point now

We've dragged ourselves up the league fairly, using earned money, buying intelligently, working hard... it would be a shame to consign all that to history with a windfall

If we'd wanted to cheat our way to the top we may as well have done it 10 years ago by laying on some strippers for Abramovich

just wondering with the new stadium, revenue from events and CL - where would we be in the money league?

If we had 60K crowds for every game and got to, say, the quarter final of the CL, I guess that we'd be looking at turnover in excess of ?ú200 million. So 8th or maybe one place either side? Something like that, I'd have thought.

Even if the club were to make extra money from concerts why would it go to us to buy players, surely they would just use to make bigger profits.

At Spurs, profits are generally ploughed back into the club and used to fund player transfers.

Generally they might be but i think it is a little deluded to think that will continue long term especailly if another company comes in. I guess they would look at it from 2 different angles, they could take profits as and when they come or plough all the money back into the club to make as worth more and then sell.

I just think that if an entertainment company came in and brought us they might see the football side and the stadium events as different businesses.

Yep. That's probably true.

But it would also mean one of two things having to happen, I would have thought - either that company would have to pay for the construction of the stadium in the first place (good for Spurs) or they would have to pay Spurs for the use of the stadium for the non football events which they stage there (also good for Spurs!).

If AEG wanted a stadium in london for events they would choose chelsea or even qpr which has quite good transport links they would not ever choose tottenham it is to far out of the way even with a new train station.

As for thinking about buying us down the line in 10 years, well thats just the usual itk flimflam trying to cover all the bases.

Also, how very, very convenient (though entirely coincidental, I'm sure) that he just happened to meet up, entirely separately, with a senior Spurs figure AND a senior AEG figure on the very day that a newspaper article linking the two companies happened to have been published.

And very kind of him to have told us that AEG aren't interested in buying Spurs. If only AEG had made an announcement to that effect yesterday, eh?

Tottenham Being Sold - Is There Actually Evidence?

A lot of people, here, there and everywhere talking about THFC being sold - why are they saying this? Does anyone actually know anything?

Think there are rumours because:

1) We went into partnership with AEG over the Olympic Stadium

2) We're not doing anything transfer wise, which is creating speculation that our assets are being kept in stasis (though in reality it's obviously down to the manager situation).

3) Some commentary that Joe Lewis has been more visible recently, but that could be to do with other business interests in London e.g. Mitchells & Butlers

4) It's the summer and there's been takeover rumours every summer for the past 13 years.

5) It's the silly season, the regular journos are in the Bahamas and the media have a vacuum to fill.
