I think de Zerbi will stay at Brighton but I wonder who they’d replace him with if he left? If they’re as well run as widely believed then they’ve probably identified someone already.
They have a hell of a system for succession planning
When it works, it’s brilliant
You need a structure in place and 100% commitment
The issue comes when a blip happens and one or two signings doesn’t work or the guy with the brains takes it somewhere else

Thing is I am sure posters were saying the same thing after the AVB/Sherwood season and look what happened. Call me stupidly optimistic but I believe, if we get a decent manager who is afforded some time, some additions at the back and in goal, we have some really decent potential in this squad. It just needs harnessing and used properly.

Definitely, with some better defenders and more creativity and pace in midfield we'd look a much better side. Probably 2 defenders and 1 midfielder or maybe even 1 defender if we play 4 at the back. That would see us in the top 6 I'd expect then can build afterwards. There's definitely a decent base of players to start with, many are early/mid twenties as well.

Sorry but you're talking rubbish. I highlighted the difference between Marco Silva and Poch. For you to extend that to De Zerbi is nonsense - I agree that de Zerbi is a great option - I don't think there is a cat in hells chance of us landing him, but he'd be a great manager for us!

Look at his career of upwards moves:

de Zerbi: Benevento (bottom) then UPWARDS TO Sassuolo (11th, 8th, 8th) then UPWARDS TO Shakhtar (Champions!) then UPWARDS TO Brighton
Poch: Espanol UPWARDS to Southampton (8th placed finish!! miracle for them!) then Spurs
Even Ange: Australia (successful) >>> Japan (successful) >> Celtic (successful) >> Spurs

whereas:

Silva: Bumbles around 4 lower PL teams, though he did get Southampton to 10th

As importantly, the first 3 play attacking exciting football. Silva plays passing football like Potter and Rodgers, but in my view is no better than them either in terms of result or excitement

I don’t think Silva ever managed Southampton?

City only won the league because Arsenal collapsed and City went on a bit of a tear at the right time.

Oh, hang on. That's the same as being better.
My point is that they could and should have finished above us. It was their own weak mental state that allowed us to catch them much like this season with the same thing happened for that versus Emirates Marketing Project.

Arsenal weren't the better team the year we finished 3rd and them 2nd either. We allowed them to finish above us by totally falling away once Leicester had won the league.

We are probably a better side than 8th this season, but again our own weak mental state has allowed more cohesive and less fragile sides to overtake us.

Mentality is part and parcel of football and can't be ignored when judging a teams level

Very hard to quantify and in my opinion often used as lazy analysis

I use the Klopp example, being lazy I can say his teams were bottlers (lost his first 6 finals), then became winners, now back to bottlers?

Our squad does look better than our eventual league finish, on paper at least, on grass not so much.

I find it a bit mystifying that us, Tottenham fans, can laugh about anyone bottling it.
Arsenal bottled the league, big fudging deal, we bottle the chance to even go top of the league.
As for the comments about the woes of Chelsea, Leicester or any other team taking the sting out of our failures, bloody hell, the only thing that should take the sting out of failure is going out next season and ramming it down the oppositions throat.
I despair at the mentality around our club.

Part of the point of football is laughing at others mate (we literally have a thread in general on it)

Someone will always do better, someone will always do worse, if you can only laugh when you are perfect, you will be miserable.

p.s. all the mentality in the world isn't going to change the fact that City will likely walk the league a 6th time in 7 years next season, don't confuse mentality with money

No, the team got better over time peaked and then regressed

I think it's gonna be Luis Enrique. Watch the media link him again over the next few days.

He turned down Napoli because he would prefer the PL (Apparently), wouldn't need to pay him any compensation, which Is a plus for Levy, and he loves using youth players.

I fully expect talks to progress well until they don't and it all breaks down once the topic of DOF comes up again.

City bought/won the league, no arguments there.

We were looking for CL, failed.
Moved target to EL, failed.
Moved again to ECL, failed.
Those financial behemoths villa and Brighton beat us to the European spots.
We were as close to Everton as we were to arsenal points wise. Did we even score against arsenal this season?
Was it Forest who knocked us out the league cup this season? Or was that last season, the flat, anemic cup games now all meld into one.
I can't even remember who knocked us out of the f a cup this year.

But at still we won the "we're brick but at least we've still got harry kane" cup.
