Moussa Sissoko

Generally agree, though will be interesting to see whether Jose plays PEH and Sissoko against a team which comes to WHL to sit back.

To take the team onto the next level though, agreed that signing a physical specimen for CM who can offer more on the ball than Sissoko would be high up the list
Playing together in a home match Vs one of the lesser teams will not end well. Sissoko is the place attacks go to die.

He's constantly hiding from the ball, loves to play it back to a CB and then runs off so they can't pass it to him again. Sure if we keep playing this deep block it's not such a problem as we dont really want the ball but bloody hell he's not suited to a side that wants to do anything with the ball.

Hopefully Skipp will be able to step up when he returns.

In the right games he is immense for us ( as shown today) against teams that are going to sit back he will not be that important. But he deserves praise that he has faced a lot of verbal slagging from a lot of fans since he came here but has not let it get him down.

The fudging guy continues to amaze .. best thing I can say now is the PEH/Sissoko pivot seems to work and a lot of his work is just seamless .. leaves the fancy passes and running forward to people with more talent for it ..

Want to call out something on Sissoko after rewatching the Arsenal game for the 27th time. Might sound minor but it isn't, and shows why he derserves plaudits.

Before the second goal, a lot was made of Xhaka's role as Arsenal entered our box, watch the video you'll see him break forward and leaving Lo Celso, which allowed Aurier to find an unmarked Lo Celso and an open pitch. Keep watching that moment and as Spurs break, you will see Sissoko breaking forward as the rest of the team move forward.

Makes sense, whole team on counter, but then as he gets to the half way line, watch him almost stop. He doesn't crack on, he doesn't move forward. That's a marked difference from Xhaka.

And i want to call it out tactically, as you have someone in Xhaka who just has either no discipline or positional awareness, and Sissoko who clearly does. Not sure if this was instructed by Jose or Sissoko's own choice, but should be commended for not simply running and breaking and leaving a whole gap behind him as literally Xhaka did and cost them a goal.

May seem so trivial but it really isn't, and has been a major factor of why we are defending as a team successfully.

Good spot, maybe Mourinho was screaming at him from the bench but a smart decision either way.

In the big games, I can't. It'll be interesting to see whether he tries it against teams that sit deep and play for a point.
Mourinho seems to prefer the other team to have possession in the big games.

If you want the other team to have possession, Sissoko's your man.

He's been excellent of late and works well with Hojbjerg. Mourinho isn't going to change something that is working. We also need more cover in midfield with two attacking fullbacks.
He's also phenomenally fit, so ideal in such a congested season.

I think that there is a valid argument about whether both him and Hojbjerg are necessary against a team playing for a point.

Ideally against teams playing for the point and with low block, we would use one of Sissoko/PEH, and possibly use both of Ndombele & Gio

- I'd be tempted to play Sissoko out of the two, as he has more pace (will likely be playing as cover for break) and we need to manage PEH (we know Sissoko can play lots of games)

Entertaining that the guy is now a locked in starter pretty much, journey of -> brick, keep him away from first 11 -> good squad option -> starter, but likely first position to upgrade -> starter

Can't question his attitude, application or mentality ..

thanks for sharing the pics! I know what you mean but if you watch the Jose camera on YouTube of the second goal, it's definitely NOT Jose instructions. He's watching the break (in fact he almost misses it!) but it's definitely Sissoko's decision. Now it might be strict instruction from Jose "don't go past the halfway line when we counter" but the fact is, he paid attention and executed exactly as done. It's no wonder he's been a big player for Jose and eventually became instrumental for Poch too.

Bit of interesting insight on Jose there as well

- It was pretty obvious from documentary that Jose walking into Spurs had no plans for keeping Sissoko
- It's also pretty well accepted that Bergwijn wasn't a Jose buy

Good to see the manager willing to change his position on a player (the main thing with Jose seems to be you have to be willing to give everything for the team)
