Mousa Dembele

Whats more. If somebody was pinching me in my back. The least i would do is push them in the face... and thats what Dembele done.... watch it back at normal speed.

Us turning on our players for showing fight and passion is pathetic. We should have a united front.
Point out all of what Chelsea done to provoke.

I do not think anyone is trying to defend Chelski in this thread ( at least I have not seen anyone trying do so) but they are some who are trying to defend the fact that we lost it and by doing so blew our chance of finally winning at a ground we have been unable to do since the early ninties. I have seen some say that our players were wound up to a extent that they lost their heads and making excuses for them doing so, gonads Chelski played like they have been doing for years ( that's what they do) and its not the first time they have done so against us.

Our players completely lost it and its not something any Spurs fans should be defending ( imo) because as I have said elsewhere there is noting wrong with showing aggression and even leaving the odd foot in but what happened to us in the last 20 minutes was something I hope Poch makes sure never happens again. We are a young side who lost the plot and I am sure all the players will learn from it and become a better team because of it. But lets not say we were innocent and its all down to the nasty men in blue shirts as I say Chelski have played that way for years and have done so many times against us.

Can we put you down to design and print the t-shirts for our players to wear whilst Dembele is serving his ban?

I think you are over reacting mate.
Incidentally I do think we lost our heads and as a result drew the match but dembele was only one of 4 or 5 players seeing the red mist. I think it is hard to distinguish which of our actions on the night was worse , the attempted gouge, throwing blood, standing on players hands or leg breaking tackles. Half of the team lost their cool and singling dembele out as a lone nutjob doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

  • We dropped 2pts
  • We acted like idiots
  • We got caught and will be without a key play through suspension.

"Half of the team lost their cool and singling dembele out as a lone nutjob doesn't make a whole lot of sense."
He is one of the 'senior' and 'most influential' players and now we will lose him for 'a number of game' He should have known better - but he was already wound up saying "he will have a 'chat' with Hazard when they meet up for international training" in the media. I thought it was totally out of character for Dembele to do what he did, which added to my disbelief as to what I was watching!

Im sorry but I can find very little by way of mitigation for any of the idiots that night. My only hope is it a lesson learned. I'm glad Im not Pochettino, after all the hard work and progress made by the team, to act like a bunch of thugs is so sad. but sadly it has detracted a little from this fine season for me.

Spot on
I thought it was just me - but I'm guilty of not reading the whole thread

I don't disagree with most of that. As I said we did loose our cool and will suffer as a result. I'm not here defending anyones actions from that night.

Where I take umbrage with your post is that you think Demeble is not fit to wear the shirt but have not called out the other Spurs players too for arguably worse acts. They all should know better and although the attempted eye gouge was a nasty thing to do the fact is he didn't touch his eye. He appeared to restrain himself at the last moment and just scrape his face instead. That is not nice either I know but hardly worse than throwing blood for instance.
My opinion is that they are all in it together and singling out one act in that clusterfudge seems to me to be rather strange.

I come from an age where scratching was the domain of girls having a scrap (more recently Chelsea players i.e Torres). Its almost cowardly, snid and underhand, if you're going thump someone then punch them, but I'm not suggesting Dembele would have been better thumping Costa although he does deserve it!

Walker actions once again made me doubt his basic intellect and thus his long term chances of being at Spurs under Poch.
Dire, Rose and Kane I'm putting down as aberrations or brain farts!
Lamela was naughty but from what we are hearing Fabregas was no angle.........yet again.

What bothers me also @Rorschach is we are about to enter the Champions League next season and play the likes of Atletico who practice the 'Dark Arts' better than anyone. We will have no players left on the pitch unless they learn to channel their aggression in the correct manner.

Pochettino will know all the dark arts and tricks, as an Argentine footballer, he was weaned on them.

A lot of us on here found it amusing (or another adjective) when Costa wound up that Goon CB and got him sent off earlier in the season. Dembele should know better than to lose his head and get a potentially lengthy suspension for his actions.

I felt rare sympathy for the goons that day.

6 games seems to be the concensus, though in sure they'll find away to hit us harder. "Spurs thrown out of the champions league over fears their players will blind the rest of the competition"

All this talk about our team having 'lost it'.... I disagree with that. The only players to have properly lost it were Dembele (although even he managed to reign himself in after his act of stupidity) and Dier (who could easily have received a straight red for his foul on Fabregas near the end of the match, let alone a straight yellow).

Rose's first foul where he was warned, he actually won the ball. He was then booked for a subsequent (not particularly bad) foul and subsequently pushing William after Willian squared up to him, but he kept his hands below the face and was never going to get anything other than a yellow for that. Walker was booked for a challenge that was reasonably innocuous, Mason, Kane and Eriksen were booked for 'professional fouls' from behind where they were stopping Chelsea from advancing on our goal with numbers. Vertonghen was booked for pulling a player back (so again a 'professional' type foul - and I wish Alderweireld had done the same on Costa as he turned him). Lamela's foul on Fabregas was poor, but he seems to commit one of them every other game. His 'stamp' could easily have been accidental - and it seems it was deemed to be by the authorities, let's therefore give him the benefit of the doubt. I can't actually remember what it was that Dembele actually ended up being booked for? Can somebody remind me?

The thing with all the above is that aside from Dier - every single player reigned himself in after being booked and didn't give the ref the opportunity to send him off, and even Dier waited until the last minute of the game before putting one on Fabregas. That isn't the action of a set of players who were 'out of control'. Yes we got ourselves into a scrap instead of trying to play our football and that was a mistake, but to say that we were out of control simply isn't true. The melee after the final whistle looked poor, but nothing was really happening there, if Fabregas had been mouthing off and jabbing people in the nether regions (oo'er matron!) then one would expect that there would be a reaction by those who weren't pleased to be on the receiving end of his amorous advances.

You have a few differnt points on the go here.

We can debate who was naughtiest on the night but the only really dangerous act from us was that tackle by Dier late in the game on Fabregas. That was a bone cruching tackle which could have snapped his leg. I wouldn't have shed a tear for Fabregas mind you, biut IMO that was the only dangerous action by one of our players. The rest was handbags.

I'm pretty sure as long as they don't go crazy with the ban on Dembele that's the last we may hear of it. If the ban is excessive I can see the club fighting it (and winning their case) not least because the linesman saw it all unfold right in front of his eyes and chose not to act.

I do also think you need to put the events of the night into context. The lead up to the match, what was at stake, the comments from the Chelsea players about Lecister, the traditonally rivaly, the dingdonghead behaviour of some Chelsea players on the pitch, etc. all fed into the frenzy. I think this match had a unique set of circumstances sourrounding it that we're unlikley to see again. I would suggest that it's a once off and certainly out of character with our ususal behaviour.

I have no fear for us against the usual bully boys and tricksters. We can handle it.

what we don't know is what happened immediately before the eye gouging incident .I doubt he would randomly just go for him.I am not condoning it on any level but there must have been mitigating circumstances.5-7 games would be acceptable more than that and its a witch hunt imo.

Costa was pinching him in his back... and i dont mean a two fingered pinch... i mean a full fist full and turning
