Mousa Dembele

10 matches would be ridiculously harsh. He didn't actually get his eye so the punsihment would be just for intent. 2-3 matches for violent conduct seems about right to me.

it would be more than Suarez got for racial abuse

that would be madness

I haven't seen it yet so can't comment on the incident itself, but eye gouging is a pretty dangerous and petty thing to do to another person. Worst case scenario, you could blind the other person in the eye you are gouging so the FA have to take it seriously.

it's a nasty violent act no doubt, but there is precedent of 3 game bans for those

Both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been charged for three breaches of FA Rule E20 for failing to control their players and/or officials.

It follows incidents which occurred in the 45th and 87th minutes and also at the end of the game at Stamford Bridge on Monday night [2 May 2016].

Both clubs have until 6pm on Monday 9 May 2016 to respond to their charge.

Meanwhile, Mousa Dembélé has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video during the same game.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was involved in an incident with Chelsea’s Diego Costa near the end of the first half.

Further, it is alleged the player’s behaviour constituted violent conduct in circumstances where the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient.

The player has until 6pm on Thursday 5 May 2016 to respond to the charge.

Off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time by the match officials are referred to a panel of three former elite referees.

Each referee panel member will review the video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it a sending-off offence.

For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.

I called for min 4, maybe 7 depending on what evidence is presented.

Were it a second similar then 10 is proper.

This is where we end up when we let thing go.

It's meant to be a bloody game !

How serious are these breaches of E20 is my concern.

Missing Dembele would could probably live with (Could have been worse, could have been a few other players charged too). My real concern is points deduction. We can all summise and people can tweet saying it wont happen.

Look at the s#it that has happened to this club is recent times. If there is one team that could get a points deduction to deny them a possible 2nd place and CL football, its us

Have to say, I find eye gouging a very strange reaction to a provocation. Punching, kicking, bitch slapping, head butting and even spitting seems more, eh, appropriate.

Guess we're looking at six games now then.

It wasn't a gouge though more a scratch

It was stupid behaviour, but agree with this. A gouge is when you actually touch someones eye area NOT when poking their face.

The same as Lamela slowly *walking* on Fabregas hand is reported as a *stamp*.

Sadly the sports media seem to prefer soap operas to the actual game of football.

Rules say "Sporting sanction: Not applicable" for E20 breach. No points deduction.

Good work finding that!

Haven't Chelsea already been charged with this 3 times this season? Surely their punishment has to be worse than ours otherwise it's perfection.

Agree, that incident, and the whole game, has been ridiculously overblown.

If Moose had got Costa in the eye, he'd still be rolling around now.
