Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

What I don't get is, why are we waiting to sell Modric before we try and get Moutinho? It's not beyond the realms of possibility that the Modric saga will drag on until late August. We still need two strikers as well.

because if no one stumps up the cash for Modric we won't be needing him

Keeping the Moutinho deal quiet for a little while longer could be beneficial to Porto as well if they're trying to get a replacement.

How would they know if RM are going to stump up the required fee?

I would assume that the two clubs are still in negotiations and hope to get a deal done. I think Levy is happy to let him go this time, provided we get the right price whereas last year he made it clear he wasn't for sale at any price.

People in the club, mainly AVB and Levy must know either way if he's staying or going surely.

how would Spurs know if Real Madrid are going to pay the money they want ?

quite simply they don't - Im sure Levy knows what will happen if someone meets his valuation but Im equally sure he cannot predict if someone will meet that valuation

id also say that first and foremost we would want to keep Modric - with the caveat that if someone comes in with a 40 mil bid we will then let him go as it is a good deal for us

Kranjcar hits out at Levy and Spurs

Kranjcar slams Levy 'lies' over Modric
July 27, 2012

Former Tottenham midfielder Niko Kranjcar has hit out at club chairman Daniel Levy, describing his public comments as "lies" and condemning the club for their handling of Luka Modric's proposed move to Real Madrid.

Kranjcar, who left White Hart Lane for Dynamo Kiev last month, has backed Modric's stance as he attempts to force a move to the Bernabeu. Modric refused to travel with his Spurs team-mates on their pre-season tour of the United States this week, and Kranjcar insists the decision was understandable given previous promises made by Levy.

"I know that the chairman talked to [Modric] face to face last autumn," Kranjcar is quoted as saying in the Mirror. "He promised Luka he would let him go, and now he's condemning him.

"Levy did everything to protect the interest of the club and make a profit. He has also used lies to deceive the public, which is allowed in business, but if you were in Luka's shoes, you would probably do the same as him.

"To have an offer from Real Madrid is a once-in-a-career opportunity. I'd do anything to get to Santiago Bernabeu, playing for Real Madrid is the greatest privilege in any footballer's career, even if I prefer Barcelona. That's why I understand Luka."

Kranjcar also criticised Levy's handling of his own transfer, as well as that of Dimitar Berbatov, claiming "Dynamo Kiev is a bigger club than Spurs".

"In my three years at White Hart Lane, I never had lunch or a serious talk with the president. There was no need. It's not customary for bosses to invite you for a cup of coffee, even if you're their next-door neighbour like I was, in Cuffley.

"I know from my own experience how difficult these people are and how hard it is to break out of a contract with them.

"Remember Berbatov? And it was the same with me: they held me back for two years, until finally my new club paid what they were asking, and not a pound less.

"That is their speciality: they set unreasonably high transfer demands, but the absurd thing is they always get what they ask for.

"Kiev is not London, but it is very good for city life, and the football teams are very strong. Dynamo Kiev is big on tradition and the fans, and though lots of people will say it's not like Tottenham, if you look at history, Dynamo Kiev is a bigger club than Spurs," Kranjcar said.

He seems to be still upset at not being given chance to play while at Spurs. Understandable given how Redknapp treated the fringe players. Even Gomes hit out at Redknapp yesterday.

Well Niko, don't sign a long contract, ask for less money and don't be a decent player. How's that? The last bit certainly wasn't an issue towards the end...what a joke all that crap is. macaron.

Ah, so Kranky DOES know what he is doing and saying and therefore is a macaron. As opposed to Modric who is no more than an innocent puppet. Good to see some Croats do have free will....

And he can go, if Real Madrid pays what he's worth.

Club chairman in putting the club's interests first shocker.

Modric could hand in a transfer request, but I guess he doesn't want the move enough to let go of his loyalty bonus?

You probably should have though that through before you signed the contract then.

"Remember Berbatov? And it was the same with me: they held me back for two years, until finally my new club paid what they were asking, and not a pound less.

And what's wrong with that? Spurs owned you, you know. And Berbatov.

Great history, just like Spurs, and now Dinamo Kiev are successful in the prestigeous Ukranian league, playing the likes of Hoverla Uzhhorod, Kryvbas Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. Not quite Liverpool, Manchester United or Arsenal, are they?

I didn't see the 'even if I prefer Barcelona' bit. Jesus. It's like a target of ours coming out and professing his admiration for us (much like Jan did) but then going on to state that he'd do anything to get to the Emirates Stadium and that playing for Arsenal would be the greatest privilege in his career, even if he does prefer us.

'Hollow' is the word that springs to mind.

"I know from my own experience how difficult these people are and how hard it is to break out of a contract with them.

And this is a bad thing? Holding people to contracts they have signed.
