Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

I don't think our insistence on the 40 mil asking price is dependant on the Moutinho deal what so ever - it's down to the fact that ideally we don't want to be selling our best player and if someone wants to buy him then they will have to pay top dollar.

Our plan A is keep Modric - plan B is replace him with Moutinho and get the best price we can in both deals.

If our first choice was to sell Modric then i could see what people are saying about selling him based on the replacments asking price, i wouldn't particularly agree with it but it'd make some sense

This seems consistent with all the messages coming out of WHL. We are not desperate to sell. Modric is desperate to move.

Luka Modric has made a grovelling apology to chairman Daniel Levy for going on strike.
Source: Sun

The Croatian playmaker stopped off at Tottenham’s HQ to play down his latest bust-up with Levy before he eventually flew to America for his club’s pre-season tour.

Modric, 26, hoped his no-show at Heathrow on Sunday would force Spurs to push through a deal with Real Madrid. But the tactic infuriated Levy, who wanted to hit him with a £15,000 fine for each day he was on strike.

Boss Andre Villas-Boas said last night: “The club must protect themselves. We have to hold on to our values and rights. Last year Luka behaved professionally. Unfortunately this is the first time he has taken these actions and it is not common professional behaviour.

“Either the clubs interested must now meet our demands regarding his value or the player must continue with his club duties.

“Hopefully this won’t drag on as it doesn’t help Luka or us.”

Modric has already been fined £80,000 after refusing to train last week and Levy has made it clear he can only leave if a club meet his £40million valuation.

Has this been confirmed anywhere else?

Levy was in LA very recently. There was the photo with the Mr Pointy and Mrs Busty with a consular-type person (at the week-end?). Given his wife is supposed to be ill in the US and we play the Galaxy today it seems unlikely that Levy has flown back to Tottenham HQ to be available for a meeting with Modric should he turn up.

In other words, made-up gonads.

Wantaway Luka Modric looked glum as he finally returned to Tottenham today.

Modric looked far from happy as he trained alongside Steven Pienaar - another out his way out with a return to Everton on the cards - at their Spurs Lodge base

However, he is now set to join up with his team-mates on America's West Coast later this week.

It doesnt say anything about Levy being at THFC HQ does it? Just says Modric reported back to training

Strictly speaking no, but there was also this bit: "Luka Modric has made a grovelling apology to chairman Daniel Levy for going on strike".

Now its possible that Modric made the grovelling apology by phone and also went to the Tottenham HQ (WHL or training ground?), but that is a strange way of reporting it. I can't help thinking that Sheikh's summary is about right.

Modric is on 105k a week aint he? 15k fine a day I am presuming would be a days wages pro rata. no?

Illogical to say that he would join up with the team on the West Coast. Since the team will be playing in Baltimore on Saturday, by the time he got there he would have to travel to the East Coast. Far more logical for him to rendezvous in Baltimore later this week.

Steff, no one is denying that Mamic might be dodgy. Those links do nothing to prove your theory that Modric was forced by the Mafia to engineer a move though.

Mate.

I'm out.

I'm not denying that Luka Modric wouldn't have minded a punt at Chelski last season, but he did not seek the move, the move was presented to him via Chelsea and his agents, and he was thus instructed how to behave, etc. The player was happy with Spurs until that all happened, starting in 2010. Chelski thought they could throw money at the situation, and to be fair, a WHOLE lot of our own supporters doubted Levy's resolve. If you remember mate, I didn't.
I maintain Mamic holds a strong influence over Modric's life, given he is a "father figure" to the player, and as such, an angry "father figure" wouldn't be good.

Again, I am not denying he wouldn't be happy to have a punt at Madrid, what I have said is that we had a price, the price was there since May15th or whatever, it was all going along nicely with them trying a player-cash deal, us wanting other players-cash deal, and then suddenly Madrid realized they were the only player in town, had ,managed to unsettle the player massively, and thus Madrid and the agents start instructing Modric on "how to get the move through"...I absolutely maintain 100% that he would've behaved as normal and trained professionally had he not been firmly told by those around him to abstain from traveling/training. Once again, the agents have, IMHO, massively mis-calculated Levy's resolve. I further believe that everyone is now scrambling because they have had it proven to them again that Levy won't bend for anything which doesn't suit us. I've been consistent in saying all of this mate. Since last year.

I appreciate a difference of opinion, and strong ones too. What I think is sad, is when people consistently take the tinkle and ridicule others. I try very hard not to ridicule opinions I don't agree with, even ones I know are wildly off base. I think the same courtesy would be a good thing...

That sounds like a reasonable assumption from where I stand. That said, Mamic also had a 'strong' relationship with Eduardo, until Eduardo's wife got in the way. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that all players are under the influence of someone, be it their father, their agent, their wife, etc.

As some people have been suggesting, it's likely he's poorly advised - even more so if he listen to Mamic who's a cretin. Then again, he's responsible for listening to the advice in the first place. The bottom line is that his contract runs for a few seasons yet and he's in a poor bargaining position.

40k a week according to the majority of reports

last year Redknapp said that Modric could earn 3 times his Tottenham salary if he joined Chelsea....... i doubt that Modric was offered 315k a week at Chelsea:eek:

=D>

Levy gets kicked from pillar to post in some quarters, but this is yet another example of how he not only learns well BUT is doing a stand-up job looking after the club IMHO...

I always believed he was on approx 70k and that he was offered 100k earlier this summer...what I don't know is if those figures were before or after tax, whether the quoted figure was after the club has topped him off for taxes...I'm "guessing" not, but I'm sure there's someone out there who would know...that would certainly make the 40k a week quoted make sense (after tax???)

All the quoted wages figures that go around in the press are before tax. Hardly anyone reading them realises this. The press are always gonna use the pre tax figure because it sounds more outrageous.
