Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

Hands up all those who knew Campbell was "clearly going to move on".............

Not sure you'll see many hands here, MK. Isn't that a big part of our dis-like?..the fact that no-one saw him going following his claims of love of all things Tottenham?

And to get things back on topic, this is the difference here............... we all know Modric is going, one way or another.

can someone point out to TMK that the reason why the Campbell and Modric saga are so different and not worth comparing at all is because Campbell was openly saying how much he loved the club and how he was going to be signing a contract at a later date - quite why people thinking at that point that his agent was manipulating him is such an issue for him (MK) considering what the player was openly saying

I am specifically talking about how certain people are blaming Modric's agent for this saga vs how people blamed Campbell's agent for that saga (prior to him joining Arsenal).

Judas was Tottenham born and bred - Modric isn't
Judas promised he'd stay - Modric didn't
Judas didn't go on strike to force a move - Modric did
Judas left on a free - Modric won't

The situations aren't similar at all and aren't worth comparing. The only similarity is both have been disrespectful to the club.

Modric's attitude is disgusting. Not just because he is refusing to train but because he hasn't even given us a chance to sell him yet. It's not like we're saying he can't move. It's not like the windows about to shut. It's completely and utterly unneccesary which just takes the tinkle completely. We as a club have a right to wait for the price, what harm can it do Modric to turn up and train? He must know we've said he'll get sold for £35m.

If anything Modric is f***ing himself over by showing that he resorts to striking when he wants to move. Not only that but he is just delaying his preperation for next season. I know if I were looking to sign a player the one who's still not started traning and goes on strike isn't one I'd be to keen on.

The way he has done it may be more harm. When the deal does go through, probably late in the window due to the negotiations between Levy and Real Madrid, Real Madrid are going to end up with a Luka Modric that is absolutely nowhere near match fit. That's not going to suit anyone really.

Do you not think the manner of how this saga is being handled now has to do with his Agent (and Real Madrid)?
We are clearly up for selling Modric and unlike Campbell we as fans all can see it happening. It's the manner that gets people's backs up. Don't you think Modric would want an easy life and just get a transfer without all this contraversial BS?

Same like Campbell, it's the manner that got people's backs up (as well as the fact he went to THEM). However, most people hated his agent because of how he facilitated him crossing the divide, but ultimately we all hated Campbell himself much much more for doing the deed

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric's representatives to meet with Real Madrid after he fails to arrive in New York
Luka Modric’s future could become clearer on Monday with a meeting scheduled between his representatives and Real Madrid after the midfielder refused to take part in Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season tour to the United States.

Spurs are adamant that Real have to offer close to £40 million for Modric and have again reminded the player that although they are finally prepared to sell he has four years left on his contract and will only go if the asking price is met.
The Premier League club are hugely disappointed with Modric over his decision not to board the team flight to Los Angeles on Saturday.
He will already be fined for refusing to train on Friday - two weeks’ wages amounting to around £80,000 - with further disciplinary action now planned.
Modric’s whereabouts were unknown by Spurs on Sunday although it is understood he may have returned home to Croatia as he contemplates finally handing in a transfer request.

Much may depend on the outcome of Monday’s meeting with Real so far refusing to go beyond the £27 million - including add-ons - that they have already bid for Modric who is also wanted by Paris St-Germain and Chelsea although Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not sell to another Premier League club.

On Sunday, Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas criticised Modric for his disruptive behaviour.
“I think Modric is wrong,” he said. “This (refusal to fly) will go against him. He has worsened the situation with what he is doing and now the chairman is very angry.”
Villas-Boas admitted selling Modric would be a “big loss” and has already warned the 26 year-old of Spurs’ determination to achieve the right price for him and the club is braced for a transfer saga that could run until the window closes.
Modric’s advisers, however, hope to move things along on Monday and are trying to persuade Real to raise their bid.
Levy has consistently proved to be not only a stubborn negotiator but a man who will dig in his heels if needs to be - as he proved when stating that Modric was not for sale at any price last year and had to stay despite a series of offers from Chelsea culminating in a bid of £40 million. In return, Modric refused to sign a new contract.

Spurs’ failure to qualify for the Champions League and the player’s continued determination to leave have changed matters with the club keen to raise funds to continue their rebuilding under Villas-Boas, who succeeded Harry Redknapp earlier this month.
Spurs have been interested in signing Joao Moutinho as Modric’s replacement but are prepared to walk away from the deal because of Porto’s insistence that the midfielder is worth £24 million. Porto have a dilemma, however, because interest in their striker Hulk, who they want to sell, has waned over the summer.

Villas-Boas has already acquired midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, from Hoffenheim, and Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen while negotiations continue to agree a permanent deal to sign the Emirates Marketing Project striker Emmanuel Adebayor. If Modric is sold, a replacement will be sought.
Spurs face LA Galaxy on Tuesday and then travel to the East Coast to play Liverpool and New York Red Bulls before returning to London a week on Tuesday.
Modric has told his advisers that he wants to join Real, rather than Chelsea or Paris St-Germain, who are the third club who have expressed an interest in acquiring him.
Coincidentally, Chelsea faced PSG on Sunday night in a friendly in New York - the first ever football match to be played at the Yankees Stadium - with their former manager Carlo Ancelotti in charge of the French club.

Ancelotti has been given significant funds to turn PSG into a force in European football and although his two big summer signings - Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, both signed from AC Milan - were not available to face Chelsea, the former will join up with his new team on Tuesday while the latter prepares to play for Brazil in the Olympics.

PSG, who signed Alex from Chelsea in January, also showed a tentative interest in signing John Terry but accept that it will be impossible, at present, to acquire the Chelsea captain who flew into New York on Friday after being given time off following his recent trial for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand. Terry was acquitted.

I think we should blame Real for being utter ****s not necessarily for Modric being a **** (although he is one).

Real had obviously 'tapped' him up and obviously Real have tried to get him on the cheap. What Modric should be understanding is that we have a value and Real havent met that valuation.

With the new reserve league system he might not get many games. Depending how many we have recovering from injury at any time..

Still not sure what the limit on Over 21's is..

who cares if he doesnt get many games, his fault.

What happens if Madrid continue with this brinkmanship until say, the 30th August and then offer the 35m / 40m required by Levy. We get the money but then Porto say we are not selling Moutinho because they have no time to replace him, where does that leave us? And what about the 2 or 3 league matches we have to play without Modric (or his replacement)? Methinks it may cause problems if we wait until we sell Modric before we get our replacement?

If we get close to £40m for Luka, then £24m on Moutinho would be just about as good as we could've hoped for.

We need to set a date prior to the start of the season, at least a week before and say if they haven't offered us what we want they can feck off.

A week before season starts? I would say the end of this month. In fact I would call the ****s up say £40m offer now yes or no? They say no and thats it. Any subsequent offers and the valuation increases by £500k.

500k? So you'd increase it to 40.5m?

That's hardly a significant increase.. :-k

Though the end of this month works too..

You obviously have not paid much attention to Porto's selling policy because I can assure you the Porto management come from the Levy had nosed school of bargaining. If they say 30 mill no way do they sell for less. They told Chelsea a year ago he will not go for less than 38 million - notice he still plays for Porto. These guys are not push overs

It is clear to me that we are NOT going to agree on WHO is the driving force behind Luka Modric's transfer saga, furthermore, it feels to me like we're sliding back into Harryland again, so can I suggest to everyone (including that argumentative taco thfcsteff!!!!) that we steer things back to the try PRESENT day and get back to discussing whether we think he is going to go or not?

My vote is that...I now don't know!!!!

Anyone else?

He clearly should be going.

I can see Levy not being willing to be pushed around like this. I think he firmly believes that there is no reason to sign the players to long term deals if he isn't going to hold on to them when he does. (A lot of people were saying because of how he handled it last summer that our good players would see it, and not be willing to sign contracts themselves...cue Sandro, Walker, BALE, etc gladly singing up again...but that's another story.)

So I can see him really standing firm and not being willing to cave. If we hold out, he can still go next summer and then I think his value should be £30m. But right now, he is a player with 4 years left and we absolutely do not have to be caving in to demands of Madrid, saying they won't be paying any more than £27m...it's flimflam. fudge that. I can totally see Levy making him sit in the reserves. A lesson needs to be taught. It needs to be explained to Luka that if Real want him that much, and are encouraging him to go through all this brick, then if they wanted him enough they would be paying the fee that apparently matches his worth.

But the problem is, we will need to replace him. That's the only thing. So we simply may have to compromise, and we absolutely cannot allow a Berbatov/Frazier Campbell situation to occur. And we can't let this utterly boring saga carry on for too long. Send him away from the club, and let his career suffer if he doesn't want to stop acting like a taco. It's fine to want to move, but if you act like a petulant child then you are in the wrong. You are letting your team-mates down.

Well it isnt the money its more - youre tinkling us off so here ya go add another 0.5m and so on. Soon no doubt with Madrids ****ishness it would rise to 50m.

I would be more inclined to just say put up or shut up. I would have one meeting with those ****s and just put down the figure we will accept i.e. 40m quid and not say one word.

I honestly see the rat-face failing at Madrid and falling out of favour in the same way Berbatov has at Utd. He's currently a very good player among good players, the same as Berbatov was when he was here.
