Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

Tottenham Hotspur have issued separate fines to Luka Modric for missing training on Friday and refusing to board the flight for the club's pre-season tour of America.
ESPN understands Spurs have ordered Modric to report back for training on Monday and plan to fine him a third time should he fail to attend. The total would amount to £160,000 already if Spurs decide on the maximum punishment.
The Croatia midfielder, having failed to secure his desired move to Chelsea last summer, has resolved to leave White Hart Lane and is now determined to secure a move to Real Madrid. Tottenham have accepted, and publicly acknowledged, that the 26-year-old should be allowed to leave, but only if their asking price is met.
Spurs want a fee close to £40 million, rather than the £35 million frequently suggested, although there may be some negotiation. However, it is understood that, to date, Real Madrid have offered only £27 million plus fringe players or add-ons up to a total value of £32 million.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will not do business at that price, and manager Andre Villas-Boas was earlier quoted as telling Spanish newspaper AS that Modric was "wrong" to act the way he did and that his actions would "go against him".
ESPN has been told, though, that Villas-Boas' comments were part of an off-the-record briefing to the Spanish journalist and that the Portuguese feels badly let down that they were reported.

He's hoping that every time we fine him we knock 40K off the asking price or something?

A little naivety perhaps?

Nothing is ever truly 'off the record', they'll always find a way to print it..

Has all this Modric stuff been confirmed? Is he still the innocent victim of his evil Manager? Apparently last season Modric's behaviour was Harry's fault (or to some people it never happened at all and Harry made the whole thing up), is he still to blame this time around or will AVB carry the can?

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with this one and whether certain posters maintain consistent views......

AVB has been stitched up by the journo...everyone has been trying to keep Levy's private details to an absolute minimum. I am actually surprised he was naive enough to be done like that, of course the word was already out so no huge damage done.

What it really looks like, is Madrid have got dirty. They know they're basically the only player in town, so much like Chelsea last season, they're trying to lowball this through with every little trick in the book. We asked for a couple of players in return and they're trying to palm us off with their cast-offs. Negotiation is fine, but when it suddenly becomes a case of the prospective club using agitation tools to try and force the move through, it's over for me. IMHO, it is painfully obvious that someone has told Modric not to do pre-season to force the move through. My guess is Madrid have told his agent to show the player is "real" about wanting to go (pardon the pun)...I think the player is an absolute idiot for letting this happen. The true villains here are Madrid IMHO. The player has effectively allowed himself to once again became a pawn. When will he fudging learn that Levy is FAR more likely to grant his wish if he behaves professionally than not? At the end of the day, there has been a figure. And when that figure was met, off he went...now? Well, I have my doubts it will be quite so straight-forward...one thing's for sure, any possible thought of slight concession to the player has flown out of the window. He will leave when it suits us and not a second before, whether he wants to be here or not. macaron.

Yeah i mean it's not as if poster are ever allowed to change their minds about things. That would be crazy talk..

As for 'confirmed' it's difficult to say.. Avb said Modric disappointed him, but didn't say anything about the fines.. as far as i'm aware..

I would say a lot of it is down to bad advice (yet again) from his self serving agent(s).

Sigh...I am not sure who you are referring to (probably the recent comments) but as someone who commented greatly on Modric last summer, and Harry this, I will restate what was said last summer.

Both myself and ZG Spur REPEATEDLY tried to tell you (and others) that Mamic (his agent/godfather/whatever) was the man behind it. We supplied quotes dating back to Xmas 2010. I also told you in late June that Levy would not sell whatever the circumstances last summer. The time that Harry aggravated the situation IMHO, was when he inexplicably went back on a summer's worth of"we can't let our best players go" and spent the last week of the window saying we should flog him for 40 mill and it was natural the player's head was turned because of the wages he could get elsewhere. And yes, I thought he was bang bang BANG out of order. Why do YOU assume Harry would spend most of the summer saying one thing, see his chairman standing firm, and then spend the last week of the window trying to fudge it all up? GENUINELY interested in your answer.

Finally, and I speak as a long-time postee, mate, I am really really surprised that you have CHOSEN to drag Harry's name up AGAIN. We are all trying to move on, yet you won't let it go. Interesting IMVHO...

Agreed. I suppose AVB has shown his age there!!!!!! HOPEFULLY he has learnt his lesson, but yes, agreed, he needs to not get caught like that...

Well we have quotes from AVB now, from a variety of sources, not some pony little site like Goal.com

Forget about what the manager said this season or last season, actions speak louder than words, and Modric wasn't on the pitch when we needed him against United last season. And it looks like he's not gone on the tour to America.

I would assume that AVB and Levy are singing from the same hymn sheet regarding Modric so it's not like AVB has said anything out of line.

Steff, I agree that agents are tricky customers at best, but they only do what their client tells them to do. Probably a bit of both to be honest. They are as guilty as each other.

So are we all actually sure that AVB DID say what the papers are claiming?? How do we know it's not just been made up by Madrid-linked media??
Genuine question...

I doubt that, surely agents are there to do a job. And the point of that job is to get more £££.

So they'll do whatever gets them the most £££ in the long term.

Obviouslty Modric is a fool, but mate, you should read up on the history of Modric and Mamic...it's actually quite insane. Not dissimilar, in effect, to Jorchabian and Tevez IMHO (another situation where yes, the player is responsible to a degree but he is also not the sharpest too off the pitch and thus gets easily led by his, err, handlers)...
